Maya Angelou writes that "you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights." I can add a fourth thing to the list: you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles being stranded abroad and finding other ways back home when a volcano erupts and airplanes don't fly because of volcanic ash! Like many other people all around the world, in April I was stranded abroad because of volcanic ash and had an exciting 45+ hour journey home with my family.

Every year, an average employee is expected to receive an average pay raise of 3 percent. For top performers, another 1 percent of salary raise is given. This is not surprising, though, considering how terribly the economy is still struggling. Therefore, you must appreciate every bit of raise you are to receive. Sometimes we’re our own worst enemy. We have oodles of passion, motivation and drive to reach our highest goals, but for some reason we’re just not reaching them! We quit before the finish line or we quit before we’ve even started trying. One of the major blockages to achieving any goal (whether it’s getting that project at work off the ground or buying that doer-upper to get into the property market) is our belief about whether or not we can achieve it.
The references that you include in your resume when applying for a job that you really want are so valuable. Putting a name of a reference who cannot be reached can definitely cost you the job you’re trying to get. As a matter of fact, most hiring managers use the provided references as a basis for choosing between equally experienced and skilled job applicants. Before we talk about the things you should do to ask for a reference, you should understand first what you should NOT do. These are the following:
Bursting with warm earthly colors, carnelian is a gentle stone that inspires one to identify their unique personal strengths and courage to live life to the fullest. A variant of chalcedony, carnelian is mainly composed of silicon dioxide which is commonly known as quartz. Its color range varies from a pale milky orange to deep rust brown. A reminder of the rising sun, fiery sunsets, autumn leaves and the fertile soil of the earth, carnelian is a symbol of the strength and beauty of our planet. Carnelian has held a strong presence in the history of the world.
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." -- Ralph Waldo Emerso R.W. Emerson certainly must have known me in a past life. I spent a four decades trying to be who I thought you wanted me to be, and no one, and ultimately ...
Did you ever have to manage people who just can’t seem to put their trust on one another? If yes, then you have an idea of how draining and difficult it is to build trust among your team members. And while there isn’t any way you could do this easier, you really have to try to achieve this goal.

Children have long lists of toys they want and moms have long "to do" lists. If we can set aside our money fears, it's exciting to listen to our children talk about all the cool toys they want for their birthdays or other special occasions. Do you ever hear your child say, "I have to have a ...
The Law Of Attraction explained The law of attraction is a theory with overwhelming scientific evidence. It is said to be a law of nature (like the law of gravity). It affects our lives in a big way. With advances in quantum physics more and more people are now paying attention to it. If you've never heard of it, or want to learn more, read on. I love science, especially quantum physics and could go on and on about it, but I will try to keep it brief and simple as I can here :)
For as long as I can remember – I have been called an optimist. This is a term that I embrace and love. When somebody calls me an optimist, I feel truly seen and understood. I feel like my habitual way of showing up in the world is spot-on with how I wish to be experienced – I feel like I’m making choices that represent what I really want for myself – yay me!
Most people go through life completely unaware that they hold the keys to their success literally in the palm of their hands! You search for deep meaning and purpose in all the wrong places, looking outside yourself for answers. Is it in your job, your relationships, or your material goods? No. The answer you are seeking is right in your fingerprints.
Some tips and insights to overcome fearful thoughts and emotional states that cause you to contract from others and from your own sense of resourcefulness and joy: 1) Leap! Liberation and empowerment always come dressed in paradox. If you find yourself contracting and holding back and holding ...
New country, new life, new challenges. A person experiences all of these things when he or she decides to migrate, regardless of whether the migration is internal within one's own homeland, or far away to some distant foreign country. Because living in a new place can be an incredible experience, many people choose to give it a try for a year or two and then end up staying in their country of choice forever. Others, however, have a more difficult time. Try as they might they miss the comforts and familiarities of home and never feel like they fit in.

Spring is in the air, for those of us that live in the southern hemisphere, that is and it is time for excitement, birth, renewal and for some of us out there... a time to be made redundant or get laid off!! Two of my clients got asked to leave their jobs over the last couple of weeks. One of them had a great payout and now has the time to think about what he wants to do with his life.
"The Interval" is an interesting topic of discussion. Formerly referred to over the ages as "The Midlife Crisis", "The Frantic Forties", "The Transitio " and the "Red Sports Car", it continues to rear its ugly little head even when we spend thousands of dollars trying to become aware so that we ...
There is a better way to achieve the success you want-a way that is simple and easy to understand because it is basic to your soul; in fact, it is the DNA of all success. It is the way people have achieved success from the beginning of time. It worked before there were self-help experts, it still works today, and it will continue to work in the future. It is the building block upon which all success is built.
What is the number one reason people give for NOT doing something? I don’t have enough time! You have big ideas and made plans to start a meaningful project, but you can never find the time to get it done. Days, weeks, and months fly by but there hasn’t been any action taken to move you closer to the things you want. This causes your goals and dreams to move further and further into the distance. There are many ways to tackle time management, but the first step is to stop the distractions!
Forgiveness – freeing and comforting I’ve heard a lot about the importance of forgiveness. You probably have too. But what I heard this past week about a benefit of forgiveness, I had never heard before. And it might change - well - everything. Story: The effect of forgiving your bullies
WALK. DON'T RUN Another reading reminded me of the title of one of those great old songs from my past- "Walk. Don’t Run". Who did that one? The Ventures I certainly remember when I finally accepted that my life needed major change, and found the courage to go out and get the help I needed to identify the path to change. I remember hearing from a respected Doctor Psychologist friend that the 12 steps were a great model for good mental hygiene. I was, and I guess instinctively still am, a person who when he wants it, he wants it now.

In the world of business, one of the biggest sins you can make is to compare yourself to others. If you belong to the group of Gen Y entrepreneurs, chances are you’re feeling the pressure of being successful just like your more senior and experienced counterparts. What’s interesting is the fact that young entrepreneurs tend to follow how older entrepreneurs do business. On the other hand, older company leaders are almost not interested in knowing how the younger ones run business. Well, this is a big mistake they’re doing.
The best way for people to get to know you, and find out how your business can help them, is to offer a complimentary sample of valuable information. This can be something written, like a special report, or valuable audio tips. If you don’t already have a valuable give away, then please read ...
To embody one's life takes courage and deep breathing. Breathing into your belly = relaxing = full pleasure experiences. Yoga or Buddha breathing, which any vocalist knows well, means to breath into the belly instead of the shallow, militaristic style which most men, at least, have been trained to do. Hence, breathing into our chest simply holds the tension that we want to release in our lives. Breathing into your belly provides much needed oxygen and from there you can spread your energy to every cell, system and organ of your body.
My parents and family have told me about my first steps. I certainly don’t remember them, but I am told I was an “early” walker. Seems I was early at trying a lot of things-booze, girls, dope, motorcycles, lying, stealing, cheating! I was not early getting into a journey of ...
The view of the Law of Attraction that I have is that, it is really nothing new, in an historic sense. It is an amalgamation of thought and practice that many have applied without actually naming the behavior or that approach to life. Like most things considered ‘discovered’ – like the New ...
Expat Coaching Why are you here? rnThis is the single most important questions anybody can ever ask themselves. Usually this refers to your purpose in life. However, when you ask this question of somebody who is an expat in another country, they mostly think that you are referring to them living and working in a foreign country. To ex-patriots or expats (as they are commonly known) this question is just as important to think about as it is to think about their purpose in life
I have the good fortune to spend meaningful time with a lot of smart women who keep me on track about what’s going on in women’s lives. One topic that resonates with many of these women (and with me) is the idea of busyness. This issue is of great interest in my Women’s Learning Circles. Not being busy, for many of us, seems elusive – almost selfish. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a career woman, or – like most women I know – wearing both hats, you’ve probably been well indoctrinated with the idea that you must stay busy – all day, every day, no matter what. Why?
As an executive coach, I notice one shift in mindset can translate to amazing results. As a life coach, I see people experiencing so much joy, love, peace and happiness in all areas of their lives – business, home, relationships with others, health. Setting the Law of Attraction into motion to achieve what you want can be a powerful force along this path. And I know this, and still I myself make mistakes. sr I made some big mistakes last year and I want to share the results with you.

Working with a coach is a considered choice which involves personal commitment, and an investment of time, energy and money. Whether itâs a personal or business investment, committing to coaching is a seriouschoice but it is imperative that thisseriousness does not result inpressure, poor engagement, immobility and stifled creativity. Although different approaches, such as creative techniques, are starting to be accepted in some organisational settings, âPlayâ is still s
"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way" Victor Frankl One of the things I love most about coaching others is when they really get that creating more of what they want in their lives doesn’t have to be complicated.
When one is abused, they are misused by that which has abused them. They are not treated with the respect and honor they deserve but, instead, are humiliated, disgraced, and depersonalized by one that they loved and trusted with the sacred things in their lives. One of those sacred things or treasures is one's spirit
Life can be truly hectic, even chaotic, if we don’t stop now and then to take a few minutes for ourselves. With the invention of computers, our work lives were supposed to get easier, but it's gotten busier than ever before! The original mentality was that computers would allow us to get the same amount of work done in half the time. That idea went out the window when we realized we could now get twice the work (or more) done in the same time. Now our world has become so fast paced that it’s hard to keep up.

Increasingly, there's a whole range of interesting scientific studies in the area of positive psychology showing how and why coaching works. Particularly with the current economic climate, but always really, it's so important to create a positive mental and emotional framework in order to attract and sustain abundance in your life and work.
Besides using a resume that is full of grammar mistakes and typos, the easiest way to not be considered for a job is saying silly things during an interview. Sadly, no matter how important it is for a job seeker to present himself in the best possible manner during an interview, so many job candidates fail to prepare enough for the big day. In a job interview, remember that whatever comes out of your mouth is a reflection of the type of worker and individual you are. Thus, you have to be careful in choosing what to say. Below are the things you must never say during an interview.
Ever tried to do something and consistently fail at it? You put out all the right messages, all the right motivations and yet fail. All amount of mental imagery and visualization does not bring the desired result? You keep trying and you keep failing. What happens then? Do you start punishing ...
I had a meeting last week with a new friend. It was only our second meeting, and I already feel like we have known each other forever. From the moment I saw her, we had something... not only is she the cutest thing ever, but we just have this synergy. We sat down and before I knew it, almost two hours had passed. She is really a remarkable woman.
As a leader in your company, if you’re frustrated with your middle management, you have only yourself to blame. The success or failure of middle managers rests upon the support of upper management and how well both parties work together. For middle management to do their jobs properly they must first understand the company’s Mission, Vision and Goals – something they cannot do without the guidance and modeling of upper management.
