I only have to look at a Hershey bar ….. People who say, “ I can eat anything I want and I never put on any weight” are right aren’t they? So are those who say, “I only have to look at a Hershey bar and I gain pounds!” What is it that you are saying about your body and the way you look? The beliefs we have about ourselves are so powerful that they can actually shape our reality.
KNOW YOUR DREAM You've got to create a dream. You've got to uphold the dream. If you can't, go back to the factory or go back to the desk.rn--Eric Burdonr Way back when, back when I made a decision to go into the “people helping” business as a profession, I had a dream. I formulated the dream through guided study and guided reflection. The first ad I put together for my new business revolved around the “Create a dream” theory and then making it happen.r
Each and every one of us is capable of living a life of joy. No matter what our current beliefs or situations are, we are always capable of tapping into a strength that will bring about more peace and joy. Some of us become so preoccupied with our past, that we are literally unable to find the ...
There comes a time when we heed a certain call When the world must come together as one. That was the call that the social activist and musicia Harry Belafonte heard. Millions of people were dying because of the famine in Africa. By 1985 he knew he had to take action and reached out to Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. In collaboration with Quincy Jones and fifty other musicians, who left their egos at the door, they created the single, We are the World, which has generated over $90 Million to address the famine in Africa.
The other morning I was having coffee with a friend, and we were sharing stories about our own sometimes intolerant parents. My friend has a grumpy and hard to please father that pushed one too many buttons this past Thanksgiving. “What did you bring those dishes for? What is that you made? It stinks!” My friend snapped and replied “That’s it. I am not bringing anything for Christmas.” Her father replied “Why, I like your cookies.” To which she replied “I am not bringing cookies either because last year you complained that my sugar crystals were too big!”
How many times have you been faced with a situation such as a networking meeting, presentation, or social gathering and before you ever got there you start building a story in your head. You started trying to determine the outcome, you started to reflect back to the last time you had to get up in front of other people and remembered how uncomfortable you got. You started to associate your old feelings and fears to this new situation you are rapidly approaching. As you start t
How many of your goals are ‘radishes’ and how many are ‘aco s’? In our quest to set and achieve goals we actually grow our Garden of Goals with many different types of seeds. How boring it would be to have a garden of just squash! So what is a ‘radish’ goal and what is an ‘acorn’ goal? ...
FAQs 1. What is Coaching? 2. How Does a Coach Differ from a Friend? 3. For Whom is Coaching Appropriate? 4. Are Coaching and Therapy the Same? 5. How Do I Find a Qualified Life Coach? 1. What is Coaching? Have you ever found yourself in the uneasy position of wanting to reach a specific goal but don’t know what steps to take to achieve it? Or perhaps, even more discomforting, you have a vague feeling of wanting something for yourself but can’t articulate exactly what it is
This is an interesting time in the history of business - workplace dynamics are in the midst of a huge shift. Baby Boomers in their 60’s are running into the challenges of managing the very different needs of those in the Y generation. In fact, so much focus has been placed on these two sizeable generations colliding in the marketplace, that the generation in between them, Generation X, has been largely forgotten.
The Manager and Leader The difference between management and leadership has often been discussed. Though the two have distinct differences, each of them go together to make a cohesive whole that makes a person more effective both as a manager and as a leader. However, a person can be a leader or a manager depending on the way they motivate people, and the methods and techniques that they use in both motivating and leading their people tends to be the main difference. Subordinates vs. Followersr
My 2010 New Year’s resolution is an internal one, one that will help me me be the person I want to be on the inside (the only side that really matters). It is the opposite of the typical lose weight, exercise more, do a crossword puzzle every day sort of resolution.
Most consumers wonder why their FICO credit scores are so different. If you apply for a car loan, your scores will be different than if you are applying for a mortgage. Many people wonder why these scores are so different. There are many different scoring models available through Fair Isaac (FICO). Many of these are referred to as âindustry optionâ scoring models.rn These scoring models are industry specific. There are separate models for mortgages, cars, lines of credit,
Self awareness is knowing and understanding your own personality, which includes your thoughts, strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, emotions and motivation. By being aware of yourself, you are more able to understand how other people perceive you. Why is it important to develop self awareness?
AN APPROACH TO TODAY Once again, along comes my coaching mentor Dr. Randin Brons with another Idea Engineer.
So have you heard it? Having babies kills your focus. Hedge fund Billionaire Paul Tudor Jones has reportedly said that having babies kills the focus for women in the trading industry. Macro trading, a male-dominated, highly competitive industry, requires a lot of focus and drive. Tudor Jones said once kids enter your lives, your focus isn't as single minded. So you are less likely to achieve the same level of success as before you were a mom. Does this only pertain to this specific industry? Can having kids kill your career?
There seems to be a lot of confusion about what a life coach is and what a life coach does. In this blog post I'd like to clear up some misconceptions about what life coaching is and what a life coach does. If you're wondering where can I find a life coach, I'll address this at the end. Life Coach?
Anger is a normal emotion like any other emotion. Human beings are hard wired to experience anger as a means to preserve ourselves. Instinctively anger inspires one to fight, to defend or to take cover as it alerts one to a perceived threat. In this view, we can see how important anger can be in terms of our physical safety and overall security. Anger outside the realm of its primary purpose, increases the likeliness of one to lose control and jeopardizes the safety and security that it is intended to protect.
First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do. ~ Epictetus We all have dreams: visions of the possible, probable and seemingly impossible. Setting goals is the key to turning your dreams into reality. Goals help you recognize your progress and allow you to celebrate the process. Setting goals is one of the master keys to a successful life. Goal-setting creates results, yet less than 3% of the population will actually adopt the process. Every person is gifted with the ability to dream and to plan, to envision and create the life you desire.
Sometimes it is all too easy to fall into the feelings of being a flop or defective because a clear direction is no where in sight. Those feelings can come from internal and exte al pressures. It would seem that society expects one to have a course mapped out, one that covers from the time you ...
“My personality and entire lifestyle changed. I had to quit my active involvement with the Chamber of Commerce, could not call on my big corporate accounts with male clients, and was accused daily of having affairs. My long-time friends did not know the hell I was living through. I was so ashamed.” – Dr. Gayle J. Hall.
No matter whether you are an individual or a large corporate body, you will always strive to make profit by boosting your sales. No business can do without profit as profit proves to be the most important motivational factor for any individual and business. Today we discuss more on coaching for profit. In fact to put it bluntly, if the company does not make a profit, then everyone is out of a job. Coaching for profit refers to methods and techniques imparted by a coach to people as to how they can earn rich rewards for the efforts that they have put into the business.
The issue of “Bullying” in the schools, community and via social networking has hit the media in the last few weeks in a very strong voice. It is so important for everyone to continue to understand and share when it comes to the issue. It is documented that 17- 25 children per year will commit suicide and even more try but fail from being bullied in school and on cyber networks. So many parents are conce ed and wondering what to do when and if this beast hits their own homes. Or, will they recognize it when it does?r
Once you know what you want in life, how do you go about getting it? That's where goal setting comes into play. If you've ever tried to set goals in the past and failed, or ever felt frustrated or overwhelmed when it came to goal setting, you'll find the following 5 point checklist to be an invaluable aid. 1. Is it clear and precise? Goals need to be clearly stated in language that is very specific and measurable.
Self Esteem Continuedr To me, self esteem is the most important possession a human being can have. We were born innocent, and the lowering of self esteem occurred through life experiences and over time. They key point, we were born with self esteem and it still exists within all of us, but with many, it is driven deep into the subconscious and must be “relocated”. Please read a quote from an “Idea Engineer” piece written by my friend and mentor Dr. Randin Brons:r
One of the biggest conce s that many of us have in our lives is their own ability to find a career that will suit them perfectly. Nobody can say that it’s easy to find your dream career, but nobody said it cannot be done, either. The secret to finding the right career path is to first have the right mindset to get you where you want to be. You could spend all of your time and energy taking on every job search action, but if you lack the proper mindset, it is unlikely that you will succeed. For you to attract your ideal job, take keep these three things in mind:
My story began with a personal challenge. I was in my mid 40's with Type 2 Diabetes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Chronic Eczema on my hands. My marriage weight of 120 had doubled to 240 in 20+ years. After many years of trying every diet available, losing some weight and gaining back more, I ...
The #1 reason most people fail to get what they want in their life is that they don’t know what they REALLY want to achieve in their life. You must first find out what you really want to accomplish before you can start your journey to success. Once you know what you want (more on that below), all you need to do is follow these 4 simple steps to get there: 1. First things first: set a clear decisive goal. This is important so you can focus in the direction of where you’re heading in life.
Each year hundreds upon thousands of us start the New Year off by making resolutions with great excitement and the feeling that this year’s going to be different from last. This year, we recommit to following through and we swear that we are going to stick with our resolutions. Well, that ...
Are you comfy with the process of creating what you desire? Aware that you do it every moment of every day? Everything in life up to this point, and forever moving forward, is, was, and will be created by you. Not just some of it, ALL of it! YOU’RE DOIN’ IT! Question: Does it seem as challenging for you at times as it does for me? Recently, I pondered why it seems more challenging to create items on My Dream List than to create something simple like My Favorite Dessert – Red
Have you ever noticed that people aren’t really afraid to admit that they are perfectionists? Oh sure, they will sound guilty: "It is not good, but I am such a perfectionist" but they aren’t really. People don’t feel bad telling others that “Jane is such a perfectionist”. It’s like a compliment. It’s like telling someone their too skinny. Would you be ok if you found out someone called you a skinny bitch behind your back?
We’ve heard these phrases all of our lives: “Persistence pays off”, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”, and “Success comes the day after you give up.” But are they really true? If you’re feeling tired, despondent and burned out, you may wonder just how long you have to persist before you achieve success. I used to tell my students that if you keep hitting your head against a stone wall, something’s bound to give. I wouldn’t count on it being the stone wall. Here are some guidelines for engaging in what I call “enlightened persistence.”
Early one morning, you drag out of bed. The kids have kept you up all night. The neighbor’s dog won’t shut up and you are behind on paying some bills. Now, you’re supposed to jump up out of bed and say, “Today is going to be great!” right? Wrong! Simply put, sometimes life is not always ...

They say that knowledge is power, so here is some knowledge about food, dieting, and health to empower you for life. Although this information is good for everyone, I’m particularly directing it to all you Baby Boomers, people who are roughly ages 45 – 65. If you are a Baby Boomer, you are well into midlife, you are most likely 20 – 70 lbs overweight, and you are probably experiencing some sort of chronic illness or pain, as well as some physical and mental deterioration.
A big part of releasing clutter this month in your business is keeping only what you absolutely love, use and need. The only way to do that is to take inventory of every area of your business including your team and how you work together. Your team can be either formal, informal, or a combination of both. It may include your lawyer, financial advisor, business coach, virtual assistant, as well as family members and colleagues that you can share an idea with and get immediate feedback. Whether formal or informal it is important that your team includes YOU.
The Origins of Comfort Eating and what to do about it Often our emotional state is reflected in our eating behaviors. It feels like there is an umbilical cord between how we feel and how we eat. It doesn’t have to be that way. We can learn to sever the umbilical cord between our emotions and what we put into our mouths. Reaching for food when life is hard is something many of us are familiar with. We were trained to do that.
Multitasking is a topic which has been much in the news recently. In layperson's terms it involves trying to do more than one thing at the same time. The phrase originally comes from the world of computers, where engineeers could devise systems flexible enough to perform several tasks at once. ...
As I'm writing this afte oon, I'm half-reading Tennyson's "Ulysses," half-watching the New Orleans Saints play the San Diego Chargers at Wembley (on tv!) , and wholly reflecting on what to write to my lovely past, present, and future coaching clients that will inspire them amidst the daily gloom and barrage of economic news and headlines.
One of the questions I’m frequently asked by women entrepreneurs is, “When I meet someone who is a potential referral source and/or ideal client, how do I mention my business without feeling pushy?” Great question! Being able to communicate your marketing message with confidence is key to attracting more clients, increasing your income and becoming known for your expertise.
When you are under stress and feeling overloaded, figuring out how to make a change can feel overwhelming. Whether its holiday stress, work stress, financial worries, or simply having too much on your plate, stress can set off a vicious cycle that feels impossible to break. Overload, worry, and too much to do can lead to stress eating and emotional overeating, weight gain, insomnia and sleep difficulties, and neglecting the healthy habits and routines that help you fight stress in the first place.

I was driving dow Pacific Coast Highway at 4:30 in the afte oon just a few days before Christmas. My cell phone rang and it was the principal from my daughter's elementary school. My first thought?<cite> "Wow, this must be pretty serious if she's calling me during school winter break!"</cite> I answered the phone (a little nervously I might add).
Let’s face it - we can all use a little help when it comes to streamlining our lives. But improving productivity problems can be a bit of a paradox. We’re so busy that our lives tend to get clogged up with tasks left undone, half-digested projects and poorly thought out systems, which impairs ...
Have you caught the bug? While on a flight from Texas to New York recently, I found myself reflecting on friends in my life with whom I have lost contact. I wondered about them with fondness and sadness because the disease of busyness had consumed them. We have probably all come down with ...
A common theme arises when I talk to people…. “I never get what I want!” When I put the question to them… “Did you ask for what you wanted”, I get strange looks, and even stranger answers. Why is it that we often do not ask for what we want, or we ask in such a way that the request is almost a refusal - for example…. “I know you probably wont want to do this for me, but can you….”, or “you’ll probably say no, but…..”. Coaching a male client on dating last week, we pondered
Is there anything sadder than observing a girl with intelligence, potential and skills squander these skills because she lacks the capacity to make rational choices in life rather than emotional ones? I was that girl until a couple of in years ago, when I discovered life coaching. Before I took a life-coaching course I was just a stressed, needy wreck in will desperate need of some highly-priced psychiatric therapy. Smart as I was I could not land a career worth my IQ or dip
