We know what you're thinking... "Influence without positional authority" sounds like an oxymoron and if uttered in the organization, you believe you will have employees wondering about your sanity. Everyone knows that the only way you will get things done in an organization is to use your authoritative position as a reason for your employees (and others) to listen to you. Right? Well - no.rn rnWe're telling you right now, influence without positional authority is not only pos
I stood in amazement as I watched the 33-year old Nigerian athlete, Yakubu Adesokan, break the world record in the ongoing 2012 London Paralympics in the 48 category by lifting 178kg, which is over three times his body weight. What astonished me most was that he achieved what his able-bodied counterparts from the same country couldn’t achieve.
Do you know God? If so, do you know Him intimately? And how should you respond to your knowledge of Him? We can know someone in two ways: impersonal knowledge and personal knowledge. To know someone impersonally is to know of the person's existence, their name, what they do, where they live, or perhaps even what they look like. For example, we know the president of the United States. We know his name, what he does, and we know what he looks like (well, except yours truly). Apart from this general knowledge of ours, we do not know President Obama personally or intimately as a friend.
Businesses create mission statements, so why not create a personal mission or purpose statement for yourself? Let's define what a purpose statement is. A purpose statement is a brief description of what you want to focus on, what you want to accomplish and who you want to become in a particular aspect of your life. It is a way to focus your energy, actions, behaviors and decisions towards the things that are most important to you. How do you define who you are? Defining and knowing who you are is essential to developing your purpose statement.
You were no accident. You’re not the descendent of an ape nor will you one day return to earth as a butterfly, a Billy goat, or a British Lord or Lady. You’re here at a specific time living in a specific place with a specific mission to accomplish. Your life has meaning – you are here for a reason. You already know this is true. Deep inside the depths of your soul you sense an ete al-ness, an awareness of destiny, a feeling that you really are somebody very unique in the 10,000 year history of humankind.
Are you like most people and would totally love the results and the good feelings that come as a result of changing your life? If so, there’s a downside to change – and here it is, despite how much you sincerely want a change, there’s always something that holds you back. It can be the reluctance to travel down a different path, which is the fear of the unknown. There’s an age old saying that goes something like this, “it’s better to stay with the devil you know, rather than the devil you don’t.”
The electricity in your wall socket has to be grounded to function properly and safely. In addition, things like your computer have to be safely plugged in and grounded. This is true for you too! You have to be grounded to function properly and safety. According to Barbara Brennan in her ...
Progressive Overload In the big wide world of exercise science there’s a training principle called Progressive Overload (PO). PO is pretty much the cornerstone of any training program designed to produce performance improvements for the individual who is following the program.
I’m a comedian and a two-time cancer survivor, and I make people laugh about my experiences with the disease until their faces hurt. Unusual job, true; but my mission is to convince people that laughter is as important to physical and mental health as eating right and exercising. And if ...
In today’s modern world apathy is becoming increasingly prevalent. We are constantly and consistently bombarded with all sorts of bad news, leaving many of us with a feeling of indifference and the thinking, “I can’t make a difference” or “I can’t change anything, I am just one person.” Thoughts like these, and others, are causing more and more people to avoid becoming involved with the world around them and preventing them from pursuing their goals. Definitively, apathy is

God is happy with us so long as we attend church regularly, sing psalms to praise Him, and donate to church activities...or is He? Does our church activities alone please God, or does He require something else from us? We can learn the answer to this question by seeing how God Himself feels about religious rituals without a godly lifestyle to back it up.
Question: Why should Christians obey God's commandments? Answer: Why should children obey their parents? The answer to this question is partially the answer to the question posed. The purpose of obedience to God's commandments is twofold: a) It shows that you love Yahweh your Heavenly Father in turn. Obedience is an expression of love. You cannot claim to love God while you rebel against His laws.r
This is just one small, but impactful, excerpt from my own eBook: How to Get Anything You Want Out of Life…And, More! Even if you never purchase the eBook, read this section again and again. Read in its entirety. You really can achieve your goals. You really can accomplish more than you thought was possible. Don’t just read this post, take action! A story a bit more public than mine is that of Mr. October. Reggie Jackson, for baseball fans, is known as Mr. October for hitting home runs when they counted most (during the playoffs and World Series).
Do you ever get a fleeting memory of how you used to feel when you were a kid; that incredible feeling of freedom and passion for trying new things? Life seemed so exciting. It is okay to want that again. It’s not the good old days that you want – it’s the passion for trying new things with a confident feeling of succeeding. Do you know what stole your passion and confidence? No, the process of aging; did not steal; the thief is simply your confused mind. After hearing thous
"Good riddance to good works!" is the mentality of some Christians who believe that obedience to Yahweh God's holy commandments is no longer required once you put faith in Jesus Christ for your salvation. Is this belief Biblical? When we accept Jesus as our Savior, does it mean we can indulge in a paradise of sin?
Many companies start a partnership with business website design services when they realize that they are receiving minimum to no leads from their original website creation. Normally, poorly generated leads or traffic to a website occur because the web design itself was never truly created with lead generation in mind. Most business websites are only built as a portal of information for the company's products and services; sort of like handing out a brochure to give a brief ov
I Heard My Heart’s Sound It was chasing me since a long time, an invisible undefined dream. Is it an inner feeling, deep inside or a hidden power led me as it pleases?! Something was screaming in me, It was like Sun, rising above all. It took me where wills not where I want. I didn't know what was driving me step by step to get the way. As life experience increased as confusion dominated. I didn't realize the common factor between these experiences. The factor that moved me as it likes.r

Those who dare to dream accomplish great things. nJust ask internationally acclaimed illusionists Siegfried n& Roy. I learned after years of working my tail off that if I did not take care of myself one of two things was going to happen. Either I was going to lose my health or I was going to lose in terms of my results. Self-care became my battle cry where as before I would sneer a little bit at people that talked about self-care thinking âHow bourgeois!â Little did I know that I would be biting my tongue! Not only did I learn the merits of self-care but I also learned that it was not
We talk of love but we have never thought that love comes with consequences which are life lessons. If you cannot accept the consequences then you are actually not ready to be in love. For example if you meet a man, you need to know that he has his own weaknesses and you can't ignore them at all. And if you decide to love him, also learn to love his weaknesses that come with him. You can say I like him but I don't like what he does. For God's sake. That is bonuses of love that you have been given.
Many of us rely on a structured routine to give us stability in life. We know what to expect when we wake up in the morning and we enjoy watching life play out in an orderly way, just like we always expected. From the time we are small children, we learn to rely on routine. New mothers teach their babies routine by feeding them every three hours and allowing them to have scheduled nap-times every afte oon.
The debate about who makes the better employee, a man or a machine, is something that has gone on for a long time. Arguments can be made for both sides. People are able to think independently and are capable of adjusting to the different situations that they face. They can communicate more efficiently as compare to machines and can even earn from their daily activities. Machines perform repetitive tasks over and over. Also, they do the same thing and get the similar results e

Whatever goal you set out to achieve, staying motivated is not always easy. It's sometimes claimed that if the goal is big enough and important enough than that is all the motivation needed to getting out there and achieving it. This theory does have merits. However, regardless of what kind of goal we may set ourselves, the challenges and obstacles we will inevitably face along the way can sometimes affect our focus and motivation. If it's a job promotion you want; you want t

I’ve always heard that "public speaking" is the number one most common fear. I once conducted a formal survey, however, and received different results. Overwhelmingly, my respondents chose “failure.” Like public speaking, failure is not inherently bad. We’re conditioned to avoid it, but there are plenty of reasons to change our perspective. Here are nine advantages to failing:

It has been said, “Anyone can die, but not everyone can live.” Can you relate to this? I have been attempting to go to daily Mass for Lent (please don't hate me because I'm Catholic!), and it just so happened the other day was a Funeral Mass for no one in particular I knew. Or did I? As I sat through the service,
The first step towards change is acceptance. Once you accept yourself, you open the door to change. That's all you have to do. Change is not something you do. It's something you allow.rn–Will Garcia What is it that you just don’t have enough of? Is it time? Money? Happiness? Success? Love? Fulfillment? Joy? Space? Sex? Most of us want more of something. As a matter of fact, most of us want more of a lot of things. We live in a society where more is always better, and better usually means more. Yet no matter how much we get, we continually seem to be starving.

We see those ads and commercials all the time offering you the opportunity to get your very own six-pack abs just by buying and using this gadget or that gadget or this or that supplement, and mostly within a very brief period ranging from 24 hours to 3 months. Will you end up with visible, defined, washboard abs by focusing on exercising your abdominal region? No!
journal writing is like a 6th sense, a value-adding tool for perception that allows us to experience and know ourselves and our surroundings. Jou aling is a reaction to what is happening, both inside and out. Depending on where your focus lies, your journal will reflect that. As long as you're focused, you can journal easily and endlessly. But one of the miracles of jou aling is that it can also serve us very well when we are not focused. Feeling foggy, confused, not sure
Do you remember a time as a kid, when you wanted to try something new for the first time, how it made you feel? During a romantic surrey ride around Central Park in New York City with my wife, I learned an amazing thing about horses that applies to humans as well. The driver told us that horses need blinders because they’re easily spooked if they see something in their peripheral vision. He explained that from a young age, the horses are trained with blinders and become quite comfortable wearing them; the less they see of the world, the more secure they feel. Now let’s take a cross-s
Leaders are good at gazing across the horizon of time, imagining the attractive opportunities that are in store when they and their constituents arrive at a distant destination (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). Knowing this, how can leaders create a strategy in leading their organizations to the positive end they are envisioning? It is important to understand that a strategy is a plan for interacting with the competitive environment to achieve organizational goals (Daft, 2007). However, it takes strategic leadership to achieve the results the leader is looking to achieve.

I've been promising myself I'd write an article for www.selfgrowth.com because this site just pumps me up. The problem is that I am not like most of the experts here. That's OK though, I've just gotta be me. I'm not your typical motivational writer. I don't see the world through rose colored glasses, at least not perpetually so, and I don't insist on putting a positive twist on every single situation that fate sends my way. I am more likely to be motivated by a chip on my shoulder than a sparkle in my eye.
