After residing in China for the past twelve years, I still dread the arrival of summer due to the fact that I am having an endless struggle with the smart yet aggravating Chinese mosquitoes. Regardless of my efforts, I seem to fail in persuading them to leave me alone in order to accomplish the impossible task of having a peaceful night sleep. My struggle with them began as soon as I arrived in China in 2003.

Dear Dr. Romance: My partner whom I have been in a relationship with for the past year has changed and let me down twice. We were first friends for several years & became a couple for the last year. We both fell in love instantly and desire to live together to build towards a good future, financially, & with family. We both have children from past relationships & are content with it.
When it comes to custody decision, mothers have always been the primary candidate for residential custody, while fathers only get visiting rights. The situation often gets reversed in case mother is “not good enough” to be able to take care of the child according to the investigation done by lawyers and court. However, in the last decade it has been observed that fathers are getting equal residential custody on many rounds.
Here’s an email I got recently: “I wanted to thank you also for your story about "presence" that you told at your talk recently at Open Secret Book Store in San Rafael. I had an important experience of that this weekend. I have been contemplating dating a man I met recently who is a financially successful lobbyist, and we have many other interests aside from politics.
Many believe that attraction and desire are some of the most important ingredients of a successful relationship. But a less-known concept – Self-Awareness – is vital to the maintenance of a long-term healthy and satisfying intimacy. INGREDIENT OF A GOOD RELATIONSHIP Many perceive sexual attraction to be an uttermost important ingredient of a good relationship: the partners feel attracted to one another; they touch and kiss and make love; they hold each other tight and can’t separate even for a minute; they cuddle into each other’s arms and sleep and dream together.
Believe it or not beneath the confident, silent exterior of a guy, lies a feeling or two. Ladies, we understand, are more verbal than men, and relationship experts tell us--as if it's big news--that the feminine of the genders has a need to hear words of affection. Expressions of love and frequent compliments for their beauty and character strengthen relationships with their sweethearts and build a healthy self-image.nnUnfortunately, with this bit of knowledge, the presumptio
After my husband passed, a whirl of past and future danced in my mind. The sad movie of every memory we shared played endlessly: there he was on the night we met, the wildly handsome young man with a heavy mustache. Then we were waltzing on the dance floor of the restaurant he owned, stepping into our new home, toasting across the dinner table, and cradling our baby daughter. My heart was anywhere but in the present, oscillating between painful “what ifs” and still more painful “if onlys.” Doubt weighed down the hours.

Sex does a body good. Regular sex (safe sex!) can actually keep you young.r

Conflicts and arguments are not the signs of a bad marriage or partnership. However, how you and your partner handle an argument can be the key to a lasting, loving relationship.

I Hate My Husband's Family: I Hate My Mother In Law - What You Should Do! If you are having a tough time with your mother-in-law, I've been there and I know how painful it is! Despite having a seemingly strong personality, narcissists lack a core self. Their self-image and thinking and behavior are other-oriented in order to stabilize and validate their self-esteem and fragile, fragmented self. Poor Narcissus
Narcissistic Personalities & Sociopaths Conscience is a type of judgment, that tells us what is right and wrong. It begins in early childhood, when (hopefully) parents teach a child what he can or cannot do (beginning with "no!"), then gradually how to tell right from wrong. Conscience-building continues in Sunday School, regular school and within the family and the neighborhood. We learn what's right and wrong on a personal level, a spiritual level, and a social level -- if we wrong our friends, they leave us.
Do you ever notice the hurried pace with which people do everything nowadays? Take a look around you. Maybe you’re one of those people.

Are you looking for Christian relationship help? This article offers 4 steps to let go of denial. A friend of mine complained that her college daughter didn't act responsibly while in Hawaii on her parent-paid vacation. The expectation was that she would call home regularly and not get into trouble. She didn't call home and she got into trouble. Her parents were disappointed, shocked, upset, and angry that they had given her the trip.
<img class="wp-image-10934 alignleft" src="https://www.whatiscodependency.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Denial-CFD.png" alt="Denial" width="481" height="324" />Denial is serious. It’s a refusal to acknowledge truth or reality. It can have benefits, but denial can also be our undoing and have life-threatening consequences. It affects not only individuals. Denial in the form of "group-think" can dangerously take over families and entire groups. Organizations, sub-cultures, religious sects, and political zealots can deny abuse, addiction, racism, genocide, corruption, and criminality.
If you read this Dr. Romance blog, you know that I am always talking about the importance of good communication, urging better communication, and giving skills for being better understood. Communication is one of the most important aspects of relationships; positive and negative. However, talk is not necessarily communication; and there are lots of non-verbal ways to communicate.
Gratitude Grows More of What You Want by Jan Denise Your partner doesn’t always give you what you want. I bet there are even moments when he (or she) seems incapable of it, right? And if you dwell on those moments, you’ll feel like he’s never going to satisfy you.
Multitasking is not the secret to success. A scattered, unfocused mindset sabotages the accomplishment of the major-tasking that creates lovely memories and crosses off the jobs that need doing but one time. Myriad studies prove that multitasking not only isn’t efficient in the long run, it causes stress and high blood pressure. It is the opposite of the spiritual experience of mindfulness. But this knowledge hasn’t put an end to the compulsion to confound my hands and mind with co-existing activity.
Although most people in the country wouldn't agree, we in Southern Califo ia have been having extreme weather conditions for us: rain and mudslides. You could almost say we're so used to mild conditions that we become afraid of what others would call "real" weatherweather wimps.
Anxiety and depression can both take the zest out of your life. If you've been on medication, worked on your nutrition, and tried everything else from mental health diets to pet therapy, you may want to give yoga a try. Yoga has been around for centuries and there are many benefits to doing this activity. Yoga stretches and strengthens the body. It purports to build up your body's “prana” or life force. And yoga also endeavors to get your breathing under control, which can help you with all kinds of mental health issues.
Let's be honest, aren't you just a little skeptical about people who appear happy all the time? Who say they have the secret to happiness because there is only ever good things happening in their lives........because surely this goes against some of the most fundamental laws of the universe doesn't it? Such as: That there are always two sides to everything: black and white, day and night, positive and negative, yin and yang, happy and unhappy ... and then the universal law of rhythm ...
You may be trying for a long time now to find a partner (if you are still single) with whom to develop a successful relationship, or to develop a satisfying one (if you already have a partner). In order to succeed you have probably read advice columns about dating and relationships. Listened to various tips about “how to date”, “how to make a relationship work”, “how to communicate”, and so on and so forth. In most likelihood you did what is “customary” to do; whatever everybody else is doing in their search for a relationship, and did NOT do what others don’t.
When you think about attracting men and winning their hearts you may not think of compliments and using them to your advantage, but I'm here to tell you that if you use compliments the right way you can puff up their manhood and win their affection. When we give compliments we tend to focus on stuff that we like and admire, which isn't always a good thing. They may not be proud of the fact that they can clean a toilet better than anyone you know - even if you think it's a gr
Dear Dr. Romance: I'm a high school assistant and I fell in love with mother of one of my students. She doesn't know anything about and has some difficulty with her son's wife. Dear Dr. Romance: I am living alone. I've been told I am sexually week. Can I have a life partner? How long will it take? I need care and protection, and to know what my choices are. How can I be fruitful to society and mankind? Is my life worth anything? Tell me the truth. Believe me I can keep my cool. I am mentally stable and happy. Dear Reader:
Are you struggling with forgiving yourself for things you have done and haven't done? Many people have more trouble forgiving themselves than other people. It can be especially hard when the consequences of your actions have hurt others and there is no way to remove them.
The best way to talk about the damage that the fear of being alone causes to those “infected” by it is by bringing up a real-life-anecdote: REBECCA Every evening, instead of going home after a busy day at work, Rebecca meets men on blind dates. What would she do all alone at home anyway? Read a book? Watch television? The emptiness of her apartment terrifies her. Even if she'll try to read a book or watch TV, she won’t be able to concentrate, because her mind is constantly busy with finding a partner. Explanation:
If you’ve been together for a while, those “in love sparkles” can disappear. Sometimes they just ebb and flow, coming and going mysteriously. When they’re gone, things just don’t feel as good as they used to. Often, we’re not very aware of why things don’t feel quite right, you wonder if your relationship is over, and hope that somehow, the love will return. We don’t know why it went away and we don’t know why it comes back. But what if you could help keep the feelings of
Did somewhere along your marriage did your relationship with your husband deteriorated? Whether you and your husband have been together for many years or are newly married, it's possible for you to get that happy and satisfying relationship that you crave for.
Dr. Romance writes: In my clinical experience, I've encountered many clients who are afraid to admit they're wrong. This comes from a culture of blaming and accusing -- where one's early family may have picked a "culprit" when something went wrong, and focused on blame, rather than on fixing the problem and healing the hurt. People with such experiences approach every situation as if they're on trial, and they compulsively try to convince everyone they're not guilty. They have no patterns to follow for apology and forgiveness.
We all have different facets to our psyche and by the time we become adults we identify with only a few of them, having pushed away those we either think we no longer need or those parts of us we find problematic in some way.
By Margaret Paul Ph.D. February 22, 2016 Have you been in love with a narcissist? Are you now going through pain and confusion as a result of the relationship ending?
Break or Breakup? I recently had a discussion with a couple of friends about the controversy of “taking a break” from a relationship that may be heading south. It seemed that the consensus was if it was basically meant to be you wouldn’t need a break. “If someone wants a break, it is often because they want to play the field,” said one friend. Another friend completely disagreed, confidently stating that she knew of a number of couples that were happily married today that took a break during their courtship.
Dear Dr. Romance: My husband had a one night stand several weeks ago. He told me about it. We've been going to counseling for several months and were doing great. We just found out she's pregnant. I love my husband, but can I work through this?
The one-million dollar question is: what does it take to find a suitable partner and cultivate a truly successful relationship? My simple answer is: it takes SELF-AWARENESS: identifying and understanding what stands in your way from succeeding. You might be surprised to find out that if you haven’t been successful until now in cultivating a satisfying intimate relationship, it might be YOU who stands in your way! You might be sabotaging your relationships without even knowing that you do! Here are three examples: 1. JUMPING FROM ONE RELATIONSHIP TO ANOTHER
When overcoming Christian codependency, how do you know when you should put your needs or the other person's needs first? By applying these four truths: 1.You have to stay emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally healthy. Ephesians 5:29 "After all, no one ever hates his own body, but he feeds and cares for it" (NIV).r
When people say they “accept” someone, what does that mean? Do they agree with what the other person believes? Have they seen something within the other person that proves their worth? It’s a complicated question for sure, but usually, it doesn't just mean in general, but instead regarding a specific part of that person. It means that something little, something deep within, has been recognized and approved. As a result, that person is “accepted” for being something special.
It is very likely that your attitudes, reactions and behaviors in a relationship harm it, causing conflicts and arguments. Often, you don’t even know that that’s the case. When your relationship fails, you tend to blame your partners. Developing Self-Awareness will help you notice that many of your reactions and behaviors are UNCONSCIOUS. When you understand it you become free to choose CONSCIOUS WAYS OF REACTION AND BEHAVIOR, vital to cultivating a successful relationship. DO WE REALLY KNOW "WHO WE ARE”?
The same ideas keep coming up and going around again time and time again. I heard Dr Phil say, "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, man can achieve". Of course Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie had been shouting this idea for years. Then imagine my surprise when Wikipedia attributed the same quote to Marcus Aurelius, in 4 BC! My first real ‘understanding’ of this concept was in the Marlo Thomas produced TV Special "Free to Be… You and Me"
For quite a while now, we've heard many public figures, like Rush Limbaugh and comedia Bill Maher express sco about people who are politically correct. Maher even gave his show the very funny title "Politically Incorrect." Terms like "the PC police" were used to laugh at people who were perhaps a bit strident about defending the rights of small groups of people. The hip-hop "gangsta" culture has been anything but PC.
