There’s been a major shift in how we think about our health. From food and fitness to self-care and stress management, people are realizing the power of prevention. When we invest time in our bodies and minds, we have the power to stop illnesses in their tracks.

Your health and well-being should always be a top priority. Unfortunately, in between work and family life, sometimes we put our needs on hold. However, if you’re ready to shift your focus onto your health, below are four easy steps to help you start living a healthier lifestyle.

Detox

Detoxification is the first step to living a healthier life. We’re talking about all of the tasty unhealthiness we pour into ourselves. Say farewell to packaged and processed foods that are simply not good for you. No more salt, high-fat dairy, alcohol or sugar. If you haven’t already done so, it’s also a good idea to eliminate meat, or at least decrease your consumption. Once your body is free of the sludge, it will run like a well-oiled machine. You’ll look better, sleep better and most importantly, feel better.

Nourish

Once you’ve gotten rid of the sludge, it’s time to fuel your body and soul with whole foods. Whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and legumes are rich in antioxidants that ward off disease and slow the aging process. They also contain fiber, which keeps your cholesterol in check and your digestive tract healthy.

Alternative Medicine

Alternative medicine has made a name for itself in a world where western medicine once prevailed. Acupuncture, mindfulness, and natural herbal products, like cannabis, produce results where traditional medicinal methods sometimes fall short or offer similar relief without pumping complicated chemicals into your body. Acupuncture, for instance, creates a feeling of calm, allowing you to disconnect from stress and let negative energy leave your body.

Proper Sleep Habits

Not getting enough sleep affects us in a lot of unpleasant ways. It’s closely linked to heart disease and hypertension. Lack of sleep also reduces mental clarity, concentration and makes you moody. Make getting enough rest a top priority. Turn off electronics at least 30 minutes before going to sleep, and transform your bedroom a sleep sanctuary.
The most important thing you can do is make time for yourself. Devoting even 30 minutes a day, you will become more aware of what’s happening inside yourself; physically, emotionally and spiritually.
