I got to thinking about self-interest the other day. I was interested to note that I immediately saw it as a bad thing – I saw it as selfish. It’s easy to see why, I remember growing up and hearing people talk about someone being “too self-interested” and so on. I’m sure I’m not the only person to have heard this phrase thrown around, and had come to a similar conclusion that I had. Self-interest seemed to be the trait of someone who was greedy and would take advantage of ot
Dealing With A Complicated World Success often means being able to deal efficiently and appropriately with the inevitable unexpected challenges that come our way. However, this becomes more difficult as life becomes more complicated. Fortunately we have a capability that allows us to turn over many of the redundant tasks in our lives to an auto pilot feature of our consciousness. But while this is a powerful capability, like so many other powerful tools we have available to us, this one can work against us if we don't maintain a firm grip on it through awareness.
Why is what you THINK you want a lie? I bet some of you are thinking “Who is she to tell me what I want is a lie? She doesn’t even know me.” Well, read on… This exercise works best on paper, though you can do it your head as well… Grab a sheet of paper and ...
Let me start by sharing these words of wisdom from Tom Tobbins (in his book Still Life with Woodpecker); “Choice; the word upon which all adventure, all exhilaration, all meaning, all honor depends. In the beginning was the word, and the word was choice.” A few years ago, I read this book which really rocked my world – The 13 Secrets of Power Performance by my speaker & author colleague Roger Dawson. I read it twice. I agreed with 12 of the Secrets, but I had a hard time with secret number three – Power Performers know they always have choices.
A well-rounded selection of business attire is essential for any professional. Yet I would add that the right set of business accessories is equally as important in developing a polished image for the workplace. Professional accoutrements combine form and function to give the impression of a prepared and put-together individual. Anyone ranging from recent graduates just entering the workforce to seasoned employees can benefit from these suggestions.
Where are all problems coming from? Why do we have our problems? You can ask all around you. Ask yourself. What do you want? What is coming up in your mind? It could be the desire for more money, a bigger house, a bigger boat, a lovely partner, a better health, a better education, better knowledge, children, friends, partners, and a good relationship to other human beings. Here are all problems of the world. Money. Relations. Health.r
Those of us who are care-takers often find ourselves giving way more to others than what we are receiving for ourselves. Somehow we have a concept in our minds that the more we give to others is the more we will receive. The bulk of that concept originated in our childhood. We may not have received the love and attention we deserved as a child, therefore we set out to get it from others. This need is what will push us into unhealthy emotional alliances. However, because we are automatic care-takers, the burden often falls on our shoulders to take care of others.
When we are unaware of our self-doubt, the process of seeking to find meaning in our life becomes a bit of a spiritual carnival. Everyone is talking about growing and healing and it’s hard to know who to listen to. Over here is a man on a soapbox offering to fix all your problems for a modest fee and over there is a woman with a crystal ball calling you to experience your future. Once you place your money on the table, all will be revealed to you.
Like much in life, building a home-based business is cyclical. It’s like taking a ride in a roller coaster. You start on the ground, go slowly up in the air, and then when you reach the top, fall down the other side at dizzying speed until you’re back on the ground again. Just like a roller ...
Each of us at some point in our lives will experience hardship or difficult times. It can be something as simple (but nonetheless hurtful) as someone saying something negative about you, a personal rejection or someone showing harsh resentment toward you. A few of us will experience life changing hardship such as the sudden loss of a loved one, a serious illness or injury. In such situations, it may be difficult to stay positive let alone find the joy in life.
Each and every one of us possesses creative intelligence most of which is likely untapped and therefore unused. Whether it is a preoccupation with our busy lives or sheer laziness thinking outside the box is something most of us do not do enough of. Nonetheless these creative resources still reside inside each of us waiting to be called upon. In most cases there are ways to create an environment or nurture conditions that stimulates your thinking process leading to your next
Change is constant. We just aren’t always aware nor do we pay attention to every change that we make through the course of a day. But when big changes occur, like a layoff or termination of employment, we stand up and take notice. We have to!

Often when trying to fix a problem or work out an answer we get too involved with the details. The problem seems to get bigger and bigger and more and more complicated. Sometimes walking away from it is all that is needed to get it back in perspective. How often do we hear people arguing in ...

It just amazes me how often I observe Internet marketers go through 95% of what they ought to go through to successfully promote their products, services or business opportunity online, and then fall short of the mark because of the 5% they omit to do. Unfortunately, that 5% is a killer. It’s like you and your family getting ready to take a once-in-a-lifetime month-long vacation somewhere exotic.

For someone who has suffered from and struggled with severe depression, I know what it is like to be in a state of utter darkness. Allow me to take you on a quick trip through one of my depressive timeline. Four years ago, I suffered a miscarriage. Sadly, this is something a lot of women experience and they suffer through it alone with little to no support. What is even worse is that there are men who refuse to understand the deep, blinding pain a woman goes through when she loses a child, regardless of the stage of pregnancy or actual birth of a child.

What is Mensa? Mensa is a society of people who have abnormally high IQs, sometimes referred to as the Genius Society. These are the people you knew in high school and college, and you may have been one yourself, that simply excelled intellectually in nearly every aspect, and who enjoyed furthering their knowledge and exploring the world around them in a scientific manner. Mensa is a society that allows these people to continue to explore science, and math, and every intellec
Do you believe in ghosts? As a matter of fact I don’t because I know they DO exist. Sound confusing? Ok, have you ever thought why do you believe whatever you believe? To believe is to assume. When you believe in something it shows you have not experienced it yet. I don’t believe in ghosts because I have experienced them, helped them, got help from them and got scared of them. I KNOW they exist. Let me tell you a true incident. I had visited one of my friends in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh in January 2011.r
I can’t believe it is October already! Soon the pumpkins, Halloween and Christmas decorations will be everywhere. This is one of my favorite seasons because of the richness in color all around. The beautiful fall leaves transform and change to brilliant colors, drawing us in to admire their breathtaking beauty. As the summer recess ends and it's time to come inside, fall can bring opportunities for inner transformation as well.
We spend a tremendous amount of time waiting. We wait for traffic lights, return phone calls, the "right" opportunity or a "better" time. We wait until we have the time, energy or discipline to do what it is we claim to want. We wait until the kids are grown, the seasons change, for someone else to make the first move, and tragically, sometimes we wait until it's too late.
Is a questio I am often asked. It can be a complicated process, influenced by many factors. Here are some suggestions that I hope are helpful to you. Whether you are in a state of crisis or not, ask for referrals from people you trust and who you know have been in treatment and seem to be feeling more hopeful, coping more easily and found the process helpful. Try to know what kind of person you would be most comfortable with; a warm, sympathetic listener; someone more analytical or maybe a combination of both.
"Assertiveness"- If you visit a bookstore and try to search books on Assertiveness, chances are that you would be a little disappointed. Though the behavioral school of thought has recognized the importance of Assertiveness as a behavioral trait, still there is some confusion and mystery glued ...
It’s not easy to build a home based business successfully these days. There are many “exte al” factors like the economy, the competition from other legitimate home businesses, the competition from bottom-feeders trying to pass their gifting programs and other scams as “legitimate” income opportunities. By “exte al” I mean factors you have no control over. But there are also many “internal” factors that keep people from succeeding, and you have control over them.
Why is it people believe they have to work until they are 65 before they can enter retirement? Why is it people have bought into this idea and wait sixty five years before they get out and live and do what they really want to do? Why do people think they can't retire young?
Most of the success literature published in the United States for the first 150 years focused on The Character Ethic as being the foundation of success. Things like integrity, humility, simplicity, fai ess, modesty, love, courage, justice, and the Golden Rule. Before World War I, success literature that was published spoke about the Character Ethic. The Character Ethic is a theory that relates the basis of success on principles of effective living such as integrity, humility

People have many different financial goals, but one they share in common is to be financially independent. I define that as the time when we conclude that our annual expenses can be covered for the rest of our lives without working any longer. Calculating your expenses over the next 25-40 years ...
As an executive coach, I’m sometimes called on when a leader, manager or company has too much going no – people, projects, development, deadlines, decisions – and they’ve passed the tipping point of working to full effectiveness. It’s not a weakness to have said ‘yes’ to so many things (or, more likely, for additional responsibilities to have been given to you because there was no one else to take them on) but too much complexity never delivers effective business results. A call for your executive coach is a call to streamline and to simplify.
‘What does it take to be successful in top leadership?’, I’m asked by a client about to step up to an MD-on-the-board role. And I found my usual coach approach of ‘empower the client to discover’ went right out the window. ‘If you really want to lead with style’, I said, ‘then genuinely be yourself’. My experience has often been that by the time you, as a senior executive, are invited to be part of the elite leadership team that make up the board of a large corporate, it’s your character, experience and intuitive creativity that are really being called on.

As I began my morning jog one day last week I found myself really struggling. It was hot, sticky, and humid. My legs felt like each one had a sand bag strapped to it. The mosquitoes were out in swarms. Ugh! There was no way I would make it unless I could shift my attitude. A phrase came to me ...
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."rn- Ralph Waldo Emerson When you find yourself in a rat race of getting ahead of others and impressing people, you tend to portray yourself as someone you are not. You say things which you don't mean, you do things which you don't intend to do; all this in an effort to impress someone or the other and make someone like you and in the process you begin to lose your own individuality.
Something is wrong. It doesn’t feel right. Maybe you know exactly what it is. Maybe you haven’t taken the time to identify the problem but it feels bad. You skirt around the issue. Perhaps it’s something with your relationship or with your kids. Perhaps it’s a work issue and everyone skirts ...
We’ve all been in situations when we make a bad decision or do something that goes against our better judgment. Getting involved in bad relationships whether it be work, romance or friendship, is not specific to education, class, stature, income level, race, sexual preference or age, we all do it. The question is why do we do it? What is the common thread that allows us to repeat average relationships, or continuously attract unhealthy or unfulfilling people, even though we feel we already ‘learned that lesson’?
In conversation with a jou alist a few days back, I was asked what tricks I knew that would help build self confidence – he said that he had been discussing this with a number of other people, in preparation for an article he was writing on the subject.
