In 2005, a 16 year old small town, self taught hip hop artist took the music world by storm, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming the first male in over a decade to do so with a debut single. And just like that Chris Brown had arrived! With his self titled album going double platinum, this R&B singer was just getting started. By the end of the decade, he has already established himself as one of the most successful pop stars active in the industry. He has a whole

THE PLUS SIDE OF ADHDnBy Bill Cottringe nnn I have studied ADHD for nearly 60 years now and am ready to share the results of one very in-depth, classic case study—myself. As a child I would have gotten double “X’s” on every symptom checklist available. I ran and climbed constantly ...
30 Questionsr To Help You Find Your Best Self Byr Bill Cottringer "You were not born a winner, and you were not born a loser. You are what you make yourself be."rn~ Lou Holtz.
I learned to fly an airplane when I was 18 years old. Everyday I make use of a lesso I learned while practicing instrument flight. I use the lesson even though I’ve not in over 20 years. The lesson is that when you fly by the seat of your pants, by what your senses tell you, you can quickly get ...
There comes a point and time in everyone's life when they need to let go. It's easier said than done, and even when most recognize the need to let go they can't do it. Letting go is about freedom; freedom that can only be experienced through the disconnection of the things - or the person - that cause the mental imprisonment. It's about clearing a path that will take you from where you've been, to where you want to go. It's about stepping out of the shadows of negative experiences and emerging as a victor instead of a victim.
READ THE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO IMPROVE YOUR HAPPINESS RATING HERE It's wise to understand that, in every moment, you are about as happy as you assume it's your right to be. And, it's profoundly relieving when you trust that it’s your birthright to be happy and enjoy life. If, right now, you were to rate your life by laughter, where would you place yourself on a scale of one to 10? If you find that you're living lower than eight on the Happiness Scale, it's important to accep
Dealing effectively with other people is one of the most critical abilities of daily living. It affects one's level of success at home, in school, and on-the-job. Yet many of us are woefully inadequate when it comes to knowing the correct steps dealing with difficult people. Because of the lack of ability in this area, many of us consider neurotic or overly-critically people as "problems" or "thorns in our sides."
“Success is what you get from using common sense; failure is what you get from using everything else.” ~The author. Success is built on a firm foundation of good old common sense (which unfortunately isn’t so common these days); failure follows the crumbling of a weak foundation built on the lack of common sense. Sometimes it takes seconds and sometimes years to spot the differences. Are you serious about building a strong foundation of common sense that will sustain long term success that lasts years?
Some years ago, I was a general manager for a large restaurant chain. I and the other general mangers were in a restaurant that had just been newly remodeled. As we were getting ready for the meeting someone brought in a box of those powder-sugar covered donuts. The box was placed on a large ...
FROM KNOWING TO DOING Byr Bill Cottringer “What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” ~Napoleon Hill. But will I actually do it—go from knowing to doing—is the dangling question after Napoleon Hill’s quote above. Great self-development and self-help sources of information are now nearing 1 billion “hits” on Google, and growing by the second. Maybe the problem is that this is too much information overload. What source is the best to start with? The right answer is that it doesn’t matter. Besides, if the shoe seems to fit, put it on and try it.
HEROES, VILLAINS, VICTIMS & BYSTANDERSnby William Cottringe nnn In the game of life there are four main roles we can choose to play. These roles are Hero, Villain, Victim or Bystander. Which of these roles are you playing? HERO Heroes dream big, translate their dreams into ...
People do not perceive primarily with their senses, but with their minds. Psychologist Egon Brunswik and others have shown that people often don’t see a thing unless they have some idea of what they are looking for. The reason for this may be biological. In On Intelligence, Jeff Hawkins and ...
WHY PARENTING TODAY IS SO DIFFICULT By Bill Cottringer Why is parenting today so difficult (besides being so expensive and all of us being so busy doing other things)? The answer to this question involves the main parenting role—teaching our children the basic skills that are necessary to get the most out of their lives. In other words, as parents we have to first learn what it takes to be successful and happy in our own lives, so we can pass that valuable wisdom on to our children. This is so they don’t have to experience the unnecessary failures that stopped us in our tracks.
All creation begins with Beingness. (1) Who you are being (2) determines what you will be doing (3) determines the experiences you will have in your life. Being-Doing-Having …that is the process of manifestation. So many folks get it backwards. “If I only had a million dollars, then I would do all of those things that are important to me, and then I would be a productive, happy human being.” The light of day is found in the consciousness of truth. And the truth is that you h
Occupational violence has improved over the past few years with statistical evidence suggesting that people working within the home, welfare and home-based care industries are amongst the ones that have improved the most. Prevention is far better than cure. Workplace Conflict is inevitable in any company thus it is vital that all supervisors, managers and business leaders experience Conflict management coaching. Conflict does not need to be ensured -- it could be prevented, m

The ability to deal effectively with other people, including disagreeable and sometimes even downright difficult people, is one of the most important skills of daily living. Being able to get along with a wide variety of people and knowing how to have a conversation with difficult people can determine your success at school, on the job, and in life. Yet most people's skills in dealing with difficult people are sadly lacking.
Who was the first prime minister of India? When was World War II fought? How many countries participated in common wealth games 2010? All these questions and answers come under the category of a broad term called general knowledge. That refers to all kind of events that have taken place in the recent past and has had repercussions thereafter in some way or the other. This information spreads around in the form of current affairs and settles down in recorded form as general kn
Everything is and has vibration. But not all vibrations are the same; nor do they all go well together. For example, imagine if you moved into a new home and all that you brought with you for the living room was a very old sofa - one that had been passed on through the family for generations ...
Problems at work are a typical topic of advice columns. Many working people have their own unhappy stories to tell, and entire books have been written on the subject of problems at work. Discussions of sexual harassment have been commonplace in recent years, but dysfunctional on-the-job behavior from coworkers is not necessarily sexual and can affect both genders.
We have all been in situations with people who seem to be talking at us instead of with us. They just open their mouths, take aim, and commence to rapidly moving their lips.
I have to share a story with you. The other day I was working a job fair and I was in a conversation with a few other principals in my school district. One of the principals was describing a story of a friend he knew who had taken his family to a Dallas Mavericks basketball game.
I quit teaching after seventeen years and decided to decided to get really committed to my goal, which was to get rich in real estate, and do whatever it took to fulfill on it. If I were to give three essential tips that guarantee your success in real estate today, it would be these: 1. Make your real estate aspiration your passion; turn every thing you do into a labor of love. Understand that those who win big are willing to do the things that others are not willing to do.
“. . . The flea when jumping accelerates 50 times faster than a space shuttle. Although fleas cannot fly, they can jump over seven inches high and thirteen inches long, that is about one hundred and fifty times its own length. Without its outer shell it would get smashed by the velocity of the jump, and especially on its landing….” Insecta Inspecta World (hwww.insecta-inspecta.com/fleas/cat/jumping.html)
Anger and Frustration as States of Mind - By: Joey Poltor First of all, not having a support system that is on board with your goals is toxic and secondly, state of mind is a HUGE aspect of success. Read this and then stop and imagine. The last time you got angry, really angry, why did you do it? What did it accomplish? What did it really accomplish, not just from that moment but did your anger aid you in becoming closer to your goals? My guess is NO. That is because you di
Kill the Monster While It's Small This is a very successful technique in interrupting your pattern. Killing a monster while he's small refers to jumping all over a challenge immediately, before it grows into something that you can't control. Imagine a little T-rex about the size of your shoe - or maybe smaller. And you're stuck in a room with that t-rex. And it becomes loud and annoying, and you want to get rid of him. Can you at this point? Yes, you can. You can solve the situation. He's no bigger than your shoe. He might bite you a little bit. He might run around.
I sat among a pile of papers and cried. Everywhere I looked, I saw more work to do, and the longer I looked at it, the more overwhelmed I became. Finally, I burst into tears. “Why can’t I just figure out a system for all of this paper?” I said to myself. Here I was, an intelligent woman, and I could not figure out how to set up a filing system. I felt stupid. Really stupid. So I got up and tried again. And again. And again. Each time I attempted to set up a new system, something wouldn’t work, something I hadn’t thought of, and I’d have to start all over again.

I know at least ten people whose personal Websites attract as many unique visitors a year as the number of copies sold of Dan Brown’s books. Yet, Dan Brown is a global celebrity and they remain largely anonymous. Why is that? Fame is defined as the number of people who have heard about you. If the same number of people learns of your existence online as has heard of Dan Brown, why is it that he is in all the prime time TV talk shows and you are not? What is the difference bet
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN? BynBill Cottringe n“Adam and Eve are like an imaginary number, like the square root of minus one... If you include it in your equation, you can calculate all manners of things, which cannot be imagined without it.” ~Philip Pullman. I have been ...
These are very interesting times. The world seems to be polarized â truly feast or famine. Businesses are going under and the cries of âthe economic crisisâ ripple through the planet like waves ripple out when you drop a rock in the water. Fear, failure and the worldâs obsession with dramatic events blanket the airwaves. Itâs almost impossible to ignore. But thereâs something else going on â something nobodyâs talking about. On the other side of the fear and f
How many times have you had the embarrassment of seeing someone on the street, in the cafeteria, in class, or elsewhere and been addressed by name--but, for the life of you, you couldn't remember the other person's name? But what's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. That may be true of some things, but not of people's names. A person's name, as Dale Carnegie wrote, is to them the most important sound in any language. It is their unique identifier. It is a part of them.
To understand and accept fear, we must first embrace the concept that we experience fear because we are in our ego. Most fear, or fear disguised and justified as ‘worry’ will never actualise, it just will not happen. If the feared outcome does happen, then it will happen, it is what it is!
Do You Know Who You Really Are? “Most of the things you think you know may not be so.” ~The author.
The greatest challenge and obstacle on the pathway to success is learning how to completely control our thoughts. Do you realize that you can literally think your way into success! The thoughts we allow and entertain in our own minds – whether they are positive or negative, believing or fearful, pure or immoral, dreaming or doubting – they will literally become our very actions. Over time, as we all know, our actions become habits – and it is our daily habits that determine and create our potential, character, and eventual destiny.
There was a story recently in the news of a young Harvard Law student who got in big trouble! She was having an e-mail discussion with some “friends” and she made the dire mistake of confiding a politically incorrect opinion or two. Unsurprisingly (or I wouldn’t be writing about it) the e-mail came back to haunt her.
“Find a job you love and you’ll never work another day in your life.” – Confucius The idea of living a passionate life makes sense to most people. Unfortunately, putting that idea into practice isn’t as easy. There’s too much uncertainty and too much risk. What if I don’t know what I’m passionate about? And even if I do know, what if I’m not very good at it or nobody pays because nobody cares? Doubts like these can kill our dreams in a heartbeat.
When I was a boy, I would overhear older black men talking about this evil, mythical figure called "The Man." I thought there was Batman, Spiderman, Superman, and The Man. The Man was accused of selfishly hoarding power and resources that prevented black men from getting jobs, owning businesses, and having greater opportunities in general. As a young impressionable child, The Man seemed like one bad mutha.
Somewhere, somehow, as parents we lost something. We lost something very important to our childrens’ futures. Too many teenagers today are no longer inspired to achieve, they think work is a bad four letter word. They don’t have the hopes and dreams that we did. They do not respect their elders anymore, and see their parents as slaves. Before you defend your ‘Johnny’, there are incredible exceptions, there are teenagers who are an inspiration to us all, but sadly they are in a very small minority.
Doing presentations on business ethics and fraud prevention, every presentatio I begin starts with the statement – “Every choice has a consequence!” No where is this more painfully obvious then the very public unfolding of the consequences begun many years ago by Be ie Madoff. Two years to the day – the day Be ie Madoff admitted creating the largest Ponzi scheme in US history, his son, Mark Madoff, committed suicide. Apparently the pressure of all that was taking place (as the Madoff saga is far from over) was far too much for Mark to bear.
rn[ source: http://www.TheSuccessAdmiral.com/blog ] After reading thousands of pages in books, examining hundreds of articles and studies, and comparing many other pieces of excellent information on success, I was able to determine exactly what success is comprised of.
FIVE PILLARS OF HAPPINESS byr Bill Cottringer “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.” ~Dalai Lama. Happiness is the end game goal of living. Whatever it is you are doing, it is to secure happiness. In a paradoxical way, how you define happiness determines how much or how little of it you have. One of the easiest and best ways to define happiness is by identifying the things you can do to get the most of it. Here are five pillars the experts agree on: 1. Purpose.
When I was a kid, I was moody. When I was moody, I was fated to get in some kind of trouble that got me in hot water. When I got in hot water, I felt resentful, and would say to myself, “See, life is tough; I can’t do anything without everyone jumping all over me. No wonder why I’m so moody.” As I matured, I came to realize that moods are NOT the effect of what is happening in my world, but rather: moods are the cause of what I do … which then becomes the cause of what happe
We have this idea in our minds that only the select few among us are "creative" enough to develop meaningful and interesting ideas. We like to say things like "there are right-brain thinkers, and there are left-brain thinkers" that suggest creativity is relegated to one class of people, while logic is relegated to the other. I hear it all of the time from people in my accounting classes: "I don't have a creative bone in my body. I'm a lot more of a logical thinker, and that's why accounting is a good choice for me."
We have all read about people who are successful briefly. They win a gold medal, make a fortune, or star in one great movie and then disappear. Or, there are those like Marilyn Monroe and Howard Hughes who achieve extraordinary success, at the cost of their own lives. These examples do not inspire me! My focus and fascination is with people who seem to do well in many areas of life, and do it over and over through a lifetime. In entertainment, I think of Paul Newman and Tom H
One of the most difficult challenges that we all face every day is acceptance. Not only is it sometimes difficult to accept some things in our lives, but to understand and work effectively with differentiation between that which we must accept, and that which we can change is also often hard. In short form, we often have to accept other people as they are. We can ask them to consider change, and why we think they should, but we cannot and may not change them. We can guide them (as in children, students, employees) but we cannot and may not change them or their circumstances.
Making a Cup of Tear An area of thought is that Nature provides Universal Resources that allows us to create anything that we want to create. Nature has provided all of the resources for everything that has been created in the past and Nature will provide all the resources for everything that will be created in the future. If a new resource is required at any time Nature will provide it. The key to advancements in all areas of life is our ability to use our collective intelli
Can Men Think for Themselves? I am an independent person, I can look after myself. Can I? Really! Well I thought I could. Six moths ago I split with my partner of sixteen years. Although the outcome was traumatic but inevitable, the aftermath has been amicable; my ex-partner is my new best friend. We communicate regularly because of mutual family and business interests, etc. So, can I really look after myself? Well, I have successfully proved to myself that I definitely canno
Growing Old Gracefully Byr Bill Cottringer “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.” ~Mark Twain.
It's absolutely a parent's responsibility to guide their child into a responsible and contributing adult. It is necessary for you to have some disciplines, and not to give your child everything they want, even if you can afford it. You should ask your child to do small jobs for you even from a young age, to participate and contribute. If you don't, you will foster a person who expects a slave also in adulthood, and you set them for disappointment. I recently heard a Mother say that she never says no to her child, she always reframes it.
