I had a powerful conversation with my counselor Eleanor a while back about insecurity. She said to me, "Mike when you're feeling insecure, it's important to understand which aspect of yourself is feeling insecure.

I truly believe it’s never too late to live the life you were meant to live! Not that many years ago, I made a conscious decision to step into my life and quit leaving it all to chance. After many challenging “Life Lessons,” I came to a point of really evaluating where my life was heading. I knew I did NOT want to repeat those same old experiences, but didn’t have a clue where to start or how to change things.
Have you ever thought life would be different for you today if you had a different childhood? Have you ever held thoughts such as: "My Mother never really cared about who I was." "My Father told me that I'd never amount to anything." "People won't like me if I don't agree with the crowd." "If only I didn't come from such a dysfunctional family."
Life will always throws challenges at us. That is a given. I believe that if there were no challenges in life (or ups and downs in life), life would become mundane. As Tony Robbins nicely put it, “Challenges are required for growth". If life was always smooth sailing, there would be no room for growth in any aspect of our existence. We would become stagnant and not move forward. One of the keys to overcome a challenge in life (according to my experience and research) is the ability to embrace acceptance.
Before “What the Bleep” . . . before “The Secret” and any other similar movie since . . . there was a film that provided The Key. And, it was so subtle (yet obvious, now) I only just got it nearly two decades later. And, just when I needed it. If you’re not ...
In any business, and especially a small business, there can be countless valuable “potential” profits literally hiding right in front of you. For a small business, figuring out what those gaps in your profits are – and where they are hidden in your day-to-day activities – is almost as valuable as what you do about them afterward. Here are three profit boosts to help you locate the gaps in your profits and effectively turn them around. Profit Boost #1 – Work More Effectively with Suppliers.
We all want more success and the fear of failure can often be the driving force of our actions. We work long hours, sacrifice personal time, and even sleep. We put our heart and soul into what we're trying to achieve, only to find that we're spinning our wheels. We think we're getting things done, because at the end of the day all of our Action List items are crossed out; but did we really get closer to achieving our goals? The fact is, most of us accomplish a whole list of t
When my first marriage came to an end, I was extremely sad and depressed. After my divorce, I spent years reliving my past. The memories of suffering kept coming back to me and prevented me from enjoying the present. The feeling of loneliness and abandonment were heavy in my heart. I was burdened by the mindset that my future would be dismal, and I was full of worry and anxiety.
Coping with the Holidays: 7 things to help you cope with loss during the holidaysr
My mom, Lois Dempsey Robbins, was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in early March. The disease spread very quickly and on June 13th, she passed away. I was honored and grateful to be with her through her dying process. It was both horrible and beautiful at the same time.
The hardest job you'll ever have is being a parent. And of course you want to be the best parent you can be. How do you keep a child from being spoiled? How do you teach values, compassion, work ethic, and self-esteem? How do you foster empathy, honesty, self-reliance, self-control, kindness, cooperation and joy? How does a parent promote intellectual curiosity, motivation and passion? By being a consistent healthy role model.
We become very mindful of love with the focus at this time of year, given the major marketing or advertising campaigns and displays that permeate every retail establishment imaginable, plus multiple commercials. The simple reason after all, is to entice you to spend money at their business to express love to those you love. The emphasis is always that these gestures - flowers, candy, lingerie, jewelry, cards, cuddly stuffed animals, perfume, dinner out or that perfect gift – are a necessity if you feel love for another person.
Team building is too often looked upon as “some things” to do instead of “some ones” to become. Teams are composed of people, not parts like a machine. In fact, it is time to stop treating your body and life as parts, somehow separated into bits and pieces. If we only use our left-brain mental constructs, this is how we tend to focus. For example, traditionally we see teams in terms of strategies, tasks, and dollars-and-cents measures (“bottom line”).
The most empowering question anyone can ask of a child, or even an adult, is "Who do you want to be when you grow up?" A child will respond with wide-eyed wonderment and enthusiasm while the adult will often respond with a woeful look of that was then, this is now retort. We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential. - Ellen Goodman I love this quote. This could very well be the difference between those who will struggle in the coming year and those who will thrive.
Expectations I first learnt about expectations when I started doing online / distant healing work for others almost 5 years ago on eBay (smiles as it brings up great memories). I learnt that it is best not to have expectations for a healing session, because the session is governed by the clients highest good in that moment, often things happen that may not be what is wanted, but I know it is what the client needs at the time. Expectations tend to block the flow of energy. In my opinion, an expectation is a sense of controlling what will happen, and maybe how it will happen.
Before we can say what is wrong with our educational system, we should define the term. The purpose of the educational system is to: Pass on Knowledgen Relate relevant issues to each other Prepare individuals and groups for future situations The passing on of knowledge is one of the oldest civilized functions. The passing on of knowledge was originally done in the form of stories told when people got together. Once languages were written, then came libraries which were reposi
No matter our size or shape – long and lean, compact and curvy, top-heavy, pear-shaped… many of us seem to have a negative perception of our bodies. Instead of seeing our beauty, we focus on what we believe are our negative qualities making it more difficult to feel confident and fulfilled in our lives. Without going too much into why, let’s briefly look at the culture we were brought up in. Television ads, magazines, radio, movies. Every day, we are bombarded with messages of what we SHOULD look like.
Now, that the new school year is here. I have been receiving calls from parents conce ed about their children’s reactions and resistance to returning to school. Many parents are conce ed that their child may be suffering from separation anxiety.
Babies smile - a lot. Beauty queens smile - on cue. Winners smile – most of the time, in between all that jumping and high-fiving. Smiles are a way of expressing our happiness, our joy, our pride, our gratitude. More than that, smiles are a way of connecting, of saying – without words – I’m with you on this, I acknowledge you as a fellow human or a delightful animal or a beautiful flower, someone/something I’m in sync with. All this you already know, but did you know that s
If you ever feel overwhelmed, pause for a moment and look around you. More than likely, there’s clutter in your physical (outer) space, which means there’s clutter in your inner space. A funny thing happens when you get rid of clutter in your physical space: you see your life. You lighten up in ...
Change is and has always been the very life blood of living. Getting better and improving your lot in life requires change -- and change requires commitment and fixity of purpose. nnThe changes you make, or fail to make for that matter, will in large measure determine your life's direction and ultimately, your destiny on earth. Having the courage to make changes whenever and wherever necessary is the calling card of a champion. nnnYou should never forget that changes, both la
The pervasiveness of the current economic crisis, as well as the environmental crisis, the energy crisis, the educational crisis, the health care crisis, the looming social security crisis et cetera, are all screaming, âSomething is terribly wrong!â How many even larger crises will we create before we finally face the real issue â lack of integrity! Certainly, we need to respond and initiate programs that will rebuild confidence and restore credit availability. However,
About a year or so ago I started playing a game with my two girls, Samantha (our six year old) and Rosie (our three and a half year old). The game goes like this; I ask each one of them, “How much does daddy love you?” They respond by putting one or both of their arms up into the air as high as they can and say, “This much.” Then I say, “That’s right! And how come I love you so much?” To which they say, “Just because I’m me!”
During this holiday season if you find yourself facing difficulties in regard to your business, or possibly struggling to meet financial obligations, perhaps the challenge is giving you an opportunity to develop emotional strength. While most individuals perceive success as something tangible, such as developing a business, overcoming a physical challenge or raising a healthy child, as you fully explore true success, at the heart of it is your level of emotional strength. As
A simple action sent me back, in memory, to the first time I became aware of attaching an untrue story to an experience. See if you recognize your own predilection or habit of doing this. I needed to open a new pint of Half & Half. The container had that opening that requires you pull the flaps just right to create the V-shaped spout. I started the pull and had a flashback. I don’t recall my age, but I was old enough to get myself ready for school without adult supervision (but still quite young). I needed to open a new half-gallon of milk for my cereal.
"When God takes something from your grasp, It is not to punish you, it is merely opening your hands to receive something better."rn'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.' Have you ever noticed that our Ego often chooses to perceive this differently? How? By blaming and playing the victim whenever we don't get what we ask for or things don't go our way. We did everything we thought would make it happen according to the rules of The Law of Attraction and it still didn't happen. We still didn't get what we wanted.
Creativity and intuition are both right brain hemisphere qualities that have been ignored and disrespected for generations now. Finally, thanks to neuroscience research the importance of respecting the contributions of both of our brain hemispheres is coming into vogue. I have advocated trusting your own intuitive guidance and reclaiming your own voice and inner authority for several years now.
Self-revealization acceptance brings into functional and tangible form ALL the creative energy of the universe as it is instructed to reveal itself as. Self-revealization acceptance affects the release of any and all limitations and restrictions: mental, physical, and spiritual. It will profoundly influence your life and teach you to use the Creative Power of the Universe as you see fit. This is accomplished by knowing and accepting any choice in your life as already done.
…Step right into 2012 with the anticipation and excitement of participating in a fantastic new adventure, for that is exactly what is in store for you. A new year…a new beginning…I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but never have you been given an opportunity to make amazing changes for the better than you are being given right now.
Empathy is the capacity to recognize and, to some extent, share feelings (such as sadness or happiness) that are being experienced by another semi-sentient being. Someone may need to have a certain amount of empathy before they are able to feel compassion. Do we live with Empathy?
You've probably heard the term, 'embrace freedom'. But how do you truly do that? First of all, in order for you to embrace freedom you must first believe that you are free. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. How do you suppose he maintained his sanity for such a long time and rose to the top to become President of South Africa? There had to be something greater than his natural surroundings, his circumstances.
Walking through life with resentment is like walking through ankle-deep molasses. You move, but not well, not far, and not fast. Forgiveness, resentment, resistance… let’s look at them.
Imagine your fairy godmother is standing before you, ready to wave her wand and make your wishes come true. Suddenly, the world appears a different place, full of possibilities and magic! Well, it turns out that this imaginary scenario is actually how the process of manifestation works—and ...
The purpose of this article is to provide you with several ways in which you can get yourself into alignment with manifesting more money. The first thing you need to do is realize that to manifest more money, you must feel abundant already. If you feel poor, miserable and penniless then that is ...
We are facing difficulties that we have faced before in the US, and it is not something that we cannot overcome AGAIN, unless we all stand strong in our faith to weather what lies ahead. The only control we have over the nation’s situation is through our situations, our actions, and how we handle situations which con
On a particular Wednesday morning, I was waiting for a tram, after consulting with a client. A lady walked up to the tram stop, while pushing a walking aide. As soon as we looked at each other, we smiled. In a recent edition of my newsletter - Ideal Insights (www.impetussuccess.com.au), I spoke about the power of a smile, which is an exchange of positive energy. I started a conversation with her, and then we boarded the tram. I sat next to her, and we spent the next 20 minutes, having a friendly chat.
It's a funny thing. Life provides an abundance of timely lessons often delivered in unexpected ways that can easily go unnoticed if you're not paying attention. Once you're tapped into the messages presented to you to guide you in the direction of your dreams life becomes a whimsical series of out-of-the-blue events that propel you to move beyond what holds you back. And the truth of it is, the only thing can hold you back from living the life you dream of is Yourself!
"If you really do want to be an actor who can satisfy himself and his audience, you need to be vulnerable. You must reach the emotional and intellectual level of ability where you can go out stark naked, emotionally, in front of an audience." - Jack Lemmon, Actor Jack Lemmon was one of the greatest actors of our time. He won two Oscars, another 51 acting awards and 41 nominations. In 1988 he received the Life Achievement Award of the American Film Institute.
How often do you find yourself operating from a place of scarcity. The internal voice of scarcity sounds something like this; “There isn’t enough for me….I don’t have enough….Everyone else gets or accomplishes things and I don’t….I’ll never have ...
If you’re feeling trapped by your wealth instead of completely free then there’s some misguided understanding of what it means to have wealth and the extraordinary opportunities it affords. Most people believe wealth buys freedom when often it’s quite the opposite. Many successful people, celebrities under public scrutiny or not, feel caged in instead of enjoying the freedom that is ‘supposed’ to come with affluence. A life of material wealth can become a paradox, a contradiction between material advantage and emotional deprivation.
As you quiet the mind and the body you're allowing power from the Infinite Source to empower you from within. Silence in the now is where great power resides. The still small voice speaks loudly in the silence. Wisdom emerges out of the silence. Confidence comes to you as you're strengthened in the silence. You overcome fear and become courageous in the silence. For silence is the dwelling place of the Universal Mind and Universal Power.
"As long as you derive inner help and comfort from anything, keep it."--Mahatma Gandhi Coming off of the incredible historical high of January, the energy of a hope and vision are building in everything we do. I can see people reaching out to one another to help and create connections in ways ...
It keeps moving... Doesn't stop and never slows down. Sometimes you'll say it flies. It goes by pretty quickly. It's time And it doesn't wait. Time doesn't wait for you to get started. You want to make changes... you have to start now. Stop putting things off, time is running out. If you've been putting off your goals,
“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!” - Dr. Seuss In these hectic, often stressful days, many people measure themselves on ...“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Have you ever thought about what or who is driving your choices? Week after week I hear stories about: ⢠The people-pleaser who does everything for everyone else besides themselves ⢠The baby-boomer who puts their life and dreams of traveling more on hold to stay in close proximity and take care of their aging parents ⢠The sibling that not only financially supports their own family but also feels compelled to pick up the check when they go out with their family or give
It was a beautiful Fall day in the Ozarks. The trees were beginning to turn. The air was velvety, the sun was shining. My brothers and I were walking down the hill along the paved county highway beside our farm. At the bottom of the hill was a bridge over the river that formed the boundary of our property. We could have gone through the pasture and the woods to get to the river but the road seemed to be the easier path as the woods were quite dense and over-grown with brush
Has something like this ever happened to you: a friend of yours gives you a call in the evening to invite you to lunch the next day. You are very busy and have been waiting to spend some quality time with yourself, your children, your husband, and just the prospect of going out to lunch with this particular friend makes you feel heavy and exhausted. Still, you say “yes” to her anyway because you feel you need to in order to maintain your friendship, or you fear that otherwise she will be upset with you since this is the third invitation you are turning down.
Do you love your body? No really - do you? If you're a female, chances are you don't. Studies show that 80 to 90% of adult women dislike their bodies. In fact, many of them truly hate their own bodies. Women as young as five years old and as old as 95, of varying ethnicities, shapes and sizes, ...
