Every year around December we all start thinking about the New Year’s Resolutions we will be making on January 1st. At the top of the list are dieting, exercising, quitting smoking and organizing. Then we also remember the resolutions we didn’t keep: Dieting, exercising, quitting smoking and ...
We all dream about daily conce s, fears, desires and occurrences in the form of a jigsaw puzzle, or a surrealistic movie. Sometimes we recall our dreams vividly and in great detail and other times, they drift away from memory like ephemeral clouds. There are many dream encyclopedias listing ...
Lead a Wise Lifern(Vinod Anand) What really matters in the end, said Gautama Buddha, is, “How well did you love; how fully did you live and how deeply did you let go?” All the three are golden rules of wise living.
By Sally Dasouki Out of the three basic necessity- Food, clothing and shelter, food takes the first spot which proves that it is the most important necessity of life. Abundance or lack of food decides the chance of our survival. But food is not just a biological need, it is culture! The way we eat, the way we engage in social activities while preparing food and the way we choose our meal define our personality as well as mood. The ingredients, methods of preparation, preserva
I heard the sirens behind me before I saw the flashing lights of an ambulance, followed closely by a fire truck. Like everyone else on the roadway, I looked around trying to figure out where the ambulance was heading, and as soon as I saw the lights, eased my car over to the right side of the road. Only the ambulance wasn’t traveling in the direction of traffic, the ambulance was heading for whichever side of the roadway was clear, if only for a few car-lengths - much to the
In life there is always something to be grateful for. Even if you are going through a rough patch in life there is still at least one thing you can look at and say, "I'm lucky in this way." Each morning, the first thing you have to do is take a moment to think of all the positive things in your life and being sincerely thankful for all of them. This kind of attitude will give you inner peace and help you overcome all the challenges that the day might bring. Surrounding your
About Poetryrn[Vinod Anand] A poet is the Ultimate Rest unbounded: He spreads his form of love throughout the world. From that Ray which is Truth, streams of new forms are perpetually springing, and He pervades those forms. On the harp of the road what true melodies are being sounded? And its notes pierce the heart: There the Ete al Fountain playing its endless life streams of birth and death; do not go to the garden of flowers? 0 Friend! Go not there; in your body is the garden of flowers Take your seat on the thousand petals of the lotus, and there gaze on the infinite Beauty.
On a recent Spring evening, I sat in the audience at the Broadway musical excited to see Kinky Boots and not knowing much about the plot … or the wisdom of the lead character and real life shoemaker Charlie Price. Prior to Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper wisely teaming up to create the musical (and Cyndi did a fab job on the music I might add), Charlie’s story debuted as a BBC documentary and was also turned into a feature film.
We live in a world of cause and effect. I can imagine your response… “No kidding… tell me something I don’t already know!” We all know about cause and effect. But looking at how most people seem to be living and responding to life, I feel it bears repeating. (And maybe I’m the only one who could use a reminder, so thanks for indulging me.)
The U.S. war on cancer has been going on for almost four decades. It may be time to admit we are not getting to the real cause of the disease nor are we providing the right cures. Most of the things known to cure cancer, such as tobacco, radiation, asbestos, solvents and some drugs and hormones are not being addressed properly. However the FDA and the EPA often lack the authority and resources to monitor and control these causes such as cancer causing agents in food, water and everyday products. Because of antiquated laws, chemical and radiation hazards are examined one at a time.
It was tempting to write another title headline: Are You an Addict? I decided against it for it is not my intention to highlight the word addict; instead my intention is to inspire action. So, to be clear the word ACtIOn is the operative meaning. What does it mean to be an action addict? That is a curious question that deserves a ten minute time out. Maybe it would be helpful to think about the words separately and then create your own connotations.
Manifestation 101 “How do I get what I want…?!?” This is the questio I hear most often – either spoken directly, or hidden between the lines. Having looked for the answer, and finding a number of things that work, I put them together in a simple formula. And yes, it works for money - I have ...
Lifestyle. What does lifestyle mean to you? Lifestyle can best be defined: LIFESTYLE = WEALTH = HAPPINESS What does improved lifestyle mean to you? Does it mean: 1. More money in the bank? 2. Boat? 3. New car? 4. Love? 5. Better relationships? 6. Good health? All of the above points are correct. There are no wrong answers. Improved lifestyle means happiness to YOU. The seven step process that I mention here can be applied at any time in your life and should be done on a r
Many of us are too rushed to enjoy life, too much in the future to be living fully, too anxious to really relax, too worried to be healthy, too ungrateful to be happy, too afraid to love, and too critical to be compassionate. Do your part to spread joy upon this earth: We greatly need it. Only when you enjoy this moment will you know why it is called the present. Enjoy your present; it contains JOY right now.
Many people are suffering right now due to the market volatility, unemployment and apparent lack of stability. This suffering manifests in mind patters of worry and anxiety that builds deep grooves in the brain until a new pathway is built into the brain that has you repeating thoughts of doom and gloom. The more you focus on the problems the more real you make them and the more you trigger toxic chemicals that flow into your blood stream harming your physical health some three months or three years later. If you want to stop the DRAMA here are three steps. 1. Get control of your bodyr
When there is a break-up or a divorce, children are usually the ones that are suffering so much! I lived this and I know the pain my daughter was in when her parents decided to divorce. In fact, her whole world crumble, and with it her safety, part of her identity, the loss of the family, the loss of her home. In fact, it is her full world that jus disappeared and she was feel both abandoned, rejected, unloved, and lost.
Where you focus that is where your attention will go. Because of this human phenomena when you hold an image, and visualize an outcome, you empower yourself to move in that direction. I cannot overemphasize the importance of holding a clear picture in your imagination of what you want as part of the process of manifestation. Years and years ago I participated in a workshop whose topic was strategies for success. To emphasize the power of holding an image in mind, they had us do an experiment. They divided the room into three groups, A, B, and C.
Experiences can be painful. Such is life. When we were little, we ran to mommy and her kiss and cuddle fixed everything. Lying in her arms, there seemed not a worry in the world and the incident that had brought us running and howling was very soon a lonely cloud drifting in the far distance.
Buddha said that desire is the root of all suffering. He didnât say most of the suffering or much of the suffering but all of it. Every single contraction of being is caused by desire. Because desire is such a powerful force, it is worth looking into. As powerful as desire is, every desire is a lie. Every desire is based on the idea that things can be different than they are, and that is just not true. Things have never been different than they are in any moment. Things are

As announced in my last newsletter, I offered a live seminar nthis past Saturday evening at the local East-West Bookstore. The title of my talk was “Tapping into Gratitude.” It had noriginally been scheduled for the weekend before Thanksgiving – nthus the subject – but store conflicts forced ...
To discover the prime cause of our emotions, all we have to do is acknowledge that when different people before a single event—for example, a movie—do not feel the same emotions, it is inevitably because they do not interpret the movie in the same way or, in other words, they do not think about the movie in like manner.
It always cracks me up when I hear this phrase: "it's just another day". It epitomizes just how little some folks value the gift of another day. I'm guessing that were those same people to have some kind of terminal dis-ease, they'd change their attitude zippity-quick. I'm guessing that these very same people are the ones who rarely (if ever) take time to smell the roses or watch a sunrise or listen to children laughing in the park. The ones who dash around in a frenzy, and then wonder why they're so miserably exhausted.
I was paddling a new river a couple of weekends ago and came up behind a beaver. He didn't know I was there. I spoke up, trying to give him fair warning, but by the time I saw him, I was on top of the poor fellow. We were both pretty surprised. As we went down river together at about the same ...
Knowledge through Selfrn(Vinod Anand) Self knowledge is neither gained by explanations and descriptions nor by the instructions of others but by direct experience. Whatever is experienced and known here in this world, all that is the self, consciousness devoid of the duality of the experiencing and the experience. It is the Self alone that exists everywhere at all times, but because of its extreme subtlety, it is not experienced. In all beings, it is the Jiva.
Just for a moment, close your eyes, and imagine walking along a beach. Imagine that you come across a lamp in the sand, and as you brush the sand off it, a puff of smoke emits from the opening, eventually growing and taking the form of a genie. “I will grant you any wish you desire. What is your command?” the genie says. So… if you could have a wish granted in this way, what would you ask for? A huge sum of money? A killer body? A dream vacation…? Really give it some thought. Is that what you really want?
Every year about mid February I notice indicators of drama starting to emerge. The extra pounds from over indulging during the holidays have your pants fitting a bit too tight. You only worked out two days since your New Year’s resolution to get fit once and for all, but the big snow kept you trapped at home with kids who were out of school for snow days. Business slows to a snail’s pace. Budgets are tight, and everyone has something to sell, but no one wants to buy.
Lust: A Form of Lovern(Vinod Anand) Those who try to understand God through the intellect alone, arrive at some cold and dry concept which misses the very essence of divine nature. It is true that God is infinite knowledge, existence, power and bliss, but true understanding comes from knowing His essence as infinite love. In the ‘beyond state’ from which the entire universe springs and into which it ultimately merges, God is ete ally infinite love.
New Mind in the New Worldrn(Vinod Anand) The companions, the relationships, the work, the ideas and the beliefs and the dogmas that we hold have produced a monstrous world, a world of conflict, misery and perpetual sorrow. We accept it as normal condition, we put up with it day after day; we never inquire into the necessity, the urgency of a revolution that is neither economical nor political but much more fundamental.
There are so many articles, books, videos and ezines telling you how to be successful. That’s cool – but where and how do you learn where your current habits are holding you back? Earth Dayrn(Vinod Anand) On 22 April every year, there is the Earth Day. You must know that Life began 3.5 Arab Years back, and the age of earth is 4.54 Arab years.70 % of the Earth is covered with water, and 30% is the plain. How audacious that we can even think we can allot a day for the earth!

A few weeks ago we wrote a blog called "Walking Your Talk: How Do You Treat a Waitress?" We had a great response and so this time we thought we would look at the same issue from the other side: How do we deal with people who are rude? There is no doubt that waitresses can get the worst of it. On a daily basis they have to deal with people who are inconsiderate, uncivil, and disrespectful. As Deb remembers: When I was much younger I was a waitress in a Gentleman's Club in Mayf
A reader writes, “I read your article, The Benefits of Laughter, and while finding it most informative I also felt as though it were rubbing salt in a wound. You see, unfortunately I cannot laugh, and have been looking for all sorts of medical help with this problem. Of course you didn’t know that I am going through a particularly difficult time learning to laugh. However, perhaps you could make things easier for me by sharing knowledge of anyone who shares my condition or perhaps what you think might help. I have tried comedies, jokes, funny stories, tickling.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner now. Friends and families are planning and gathering for the day. Is it going to be turkey, or goose, or maybe we'll even try turducky! How many side dishes this year? Remember last year we forgot the broccoli! Do we really have to have candied yams and mashed potatoes and stuffing? Who's going to make the pumpkin pie?
Let's explore now the second reason why the prime cause of our emotions cannot be found in the events of our lives. Once an event has occurred, you will most probably admit that it never disappears. For example, if Mary loses her job, although it will be possible for her to find another one the next day, it will never be true to claim that Mary didn't lost her job.
Mind is the Greatest Gift of Godrn[Vinod Anand] Mind is the greatest gift we have. All our activities are controlled by the mind. In the Bhagwad Gita, Krishna says that controlling the mind is more difficult than subduing the wind.
I need to say straight off the bat stress is a killer and I don't intend to be a victim anytime soon! I am a sixty years old, hard working single mum of five adult children, eight grandchildren plus a great granddaughter. I still have two sons at home all of which means I do know and understand stress. I have been widowed, divorced and have spent many years stressed out while struggling so I believe I know what stress is.
What is Your Giss? We all have giss? The true discovery is in finding out what it is. Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, giss is your essence; it is what makes you unique, outstanding, and distinct from the rest. A mother knows her child’s giss instinctively. A father intuitively knows his ...
A Facebook "friend" is a loose term that can include anyone from your brother-- to an old elementary school buddy.
Be Spiritualrn(Vinod Anand) You believe someone else is causing you stress. The truth is there is only one person responsible for your state of mind. That person is YOU. So practice ‘attitude control’. Assess the people you interact with. Accept them for what they are. You will be amused by their idiosyncrasies. You will no longer suffer for others’ faults. Whether at an exam, in business, sport or music, mental agitation spoils the party. Dynamic action emanating from a calm mind makes for success.
Learn How to Face Your Fearsr This exercise is designed to give you pause time to stop and objectively evaluate your fears. Be honest, the outcome depends on it. Repeat often until it becomes a first response habit. 1. Identify three of your greatest fears. Write them downr A. ________________________________________ B. ________________________________________ C. ________________________________________ 2. Acknowledge each fear; say each one out loud using I am statements. (Example: I am afraid of ……….) For each fear write: Is it real or imagined. Be honest.
Live and let Livern[Vinod Anand] Are you taking someone’s life without even being aware of it? You might be doing just that, as the following true-life story illustrates. A father was telling his graduate son what career the young man should pursue. The son listened to what his father had to say and then, very respectfully, replied, “You’ve lived your life and now you want to live mine. That is, while you’ll get to live two lives, yours and mine, I’ll get to live no life at all. Why do you want to take my life from me?”
On the fateful night of April 19, 1989, a young woman known as the Central Park Jogger was raped, beaten, and left to die. After a 14-year silence, she finally revealed her identity as Trisha Meili. She has appeared at Larry King Live and other talk shows. She also tells her story in her book entitled "I Am the Central Park Jogger: A Story of Hope and Possibilities." nnFor Meili, after coming out of a coma, she lived through the horror of having to overcome her physical/emoti
When I was a kid, I went to the public pool almost every day. One particular day, my friend Sheri Lou Green went with me. At ten years-old Sheri Lou was an awkward swimmer, slapping the water and fighting for every stroke. The lifeguard noticed Sheri Lou flailing about and threw her a life buoy. It almost hit her in the head, (which would have made her circumstances worse than they already were). After being startled initially, Sheri Lou ignored the gesture and continued to thrash about until she reached the side of the pool.
I’m sure you’ve heard the question many times and perhaps you are still pondering the answer! I am often asked by women “how do I figure out my purpose?” Is there a process? Is there a formula? Am I supposed to just know what ’it’ is? And how can I make money at it? “Every individual has a place to fill in the world, and is important, in some respect, whether he chooses to be or not.” – Nathanial Hawthorne, 1804-1864
With each changing season, itâs a time to reflect on the past and make plans for the future. The seasons of the year can be compared to various cycles of our life. When I think of spring, it reminds me of new growth, opening up, and coming out into the world. Summer is time for sunshine and playtime â many of us vacation and enjoy fun activities. Fall marks change and preparation for the colder months. As winter approaches, our focus shifts to warmth and indoor pastimes l
Winter can seem like it’s lasting forever and if your house or apartment isn’t a safe healthy abode both in body and spirit it can be a very depressing cold season. The lack of daylight and sometimes overbearing chilly weather can make life miserable and stir a deep sense of isolation. That’s why when it comes to our well being it’s important our living spaces serve our needs. The following are a few ideas aimed at soothing the wintry nesting period by transforming the home
