I don't know about you but sometimes as I load up my grocery cart with organic food, a little part of me wonders if this food is really better than the conventional stuff. Common sense tells me that it is much better not to eat toxic chemicals with my food, whether or not there is a scientific ...
Getting new clients by referral is one of the most effective, simple, and low cost ways to grow your business. So how many referrals have you received lately? How often do you ask for referrals? It’s exciting to open an e-mail or pick up the phone to find that unexpectedly someone you know ...

Bosses, Managers, Supervisors: Don’t Manage – Mentor! Managers and supervisors have a very difficult job in today’s world of work. Everyone’s belt is tightened about as far as it can be, yet companies, educational establishments, even non-profits, want you to do more with less. No wonder today’s managers are scrambling to figure out how to do this all-consuming, unpredictable job in a rapidly-changing society.
Playing Life Forward (and loving you). Life moves forward whether we want it to or not. It never plays in reverse. The past is past. Over. Finished. Our job is to move with the flow of the present. We are propelled by what went before, but we do not try to swim against the current of our present lives by regretting or yearning for old times. It is called your history! Each day of life recovery releases us from the past and gives us a fresh start. We can put behind us the misery of compulsive behavior - we certainly don't yearn to re-experience that!
Are you sick of yo-yo dieting? Do you weigh yourself more than once a week? Do you spend more time thinking about food and diet then you spend thinking about your life? For many women (and men, but especially women), making peace with food is a crucial step in getting on with their life and creating the life they want to live. Many successful, intelligent, highly talented people tell me that food/weight/diet is the one area of their life in which they feel incapable. Diet's don't work--they just keep people dieting (and gaining and losing and binging and miserable).
If you think that finding a lawyer is as easy as ordering food from the menu, then you are getting it the wrong way. Searching for your next lawyer that can help you with your misdemeanor case will not be easy even though you have a phone book in your hand that lists the lawyers in the city. The information that you can get from the phone book or from the yellow pages may not be enough and these sources of information may not help you make an informed and an educated choice.
I had been thinking about writing for a while, however, it wasn’t until I discovered a true purpose for my writing, that I was able to really take action in bringing these words to you. I have always known deep down, that when I speak from the heart, the words seem to flow magically, like a ...
Last night I sat on the patio with a group of friends enjoying the beautiful Tennessee evening. The conversation gravitated to food, diet and exercise which then went into self-condemnation about will power and making wrong food choices. Most of the women felt powerless to overcome strong food ...
There are real deadlines it’s important to meet: dialing 9.1.1. within seconds after witnessing symptoms of a heart attack or stroke comes to mind immediately, and an example that meets the true definition of “deadline.” Responding to the urgent request of a loved one, especially a child, or of a valued client or customer is another.
There is a distinct pleasure in getting to say, “I am my own boss.” There is no one else to tell you what to do, when to do it, or how. Being a small business owner or solo entrepreneur, you get to call all the shots. All this power can cause you to puff out your chest, stand tall and proud, ...
Many moms today are running on empty. In the morning, we fill up on a quarter tank of coffee (or our equivalent gasoline), and then try and engage in activities that require a full tank. What happens when our fuel runs out? We get tired, irritable and just plain unproductive, due to our lack ...
When you are in a vicious cycle of too much stress, too many demands, and too much on your plate, the most effective stress busting tips are the ones that you’ll actually be able to implement and that can create a shift in how you feel—quickly. This strategy is one of my favorites. It’s simple, and it won’t bog down your to-do list.r
There is a certain way you can act that is powerful. Acting is that which receives. It is a tool of creation, the others being thought and words. Thought, words, and action are the tools that you use to create your world. Thoughts create on one level, the highest vibratory level. Words step down that vibration into a realm we can begin to sense. Actions finally bring the vibration of that which we thought up into a realm we can touch and see. Actions, therefore, are the st
Talking with a friend recently he said he was very surprised to have read that Cherie Blair had a coach. His take on coaching was that it was for people who were not successful, or that success eluded them, not someone who has achieved a lot in their life. This went on to be a very interesting ...
My son attends Cornell University, where I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Professor Robert H. Frank, author of The Economic Naturalist: In Search of Explanations for Everyday Enigmas. One topic that Professor Frank covers in his writings is the "opportunity cost" or the ...
PLEASE LIKE ME? I don’t know how many years I went through life deep down just wanting people to like me. Can you relate? As a kid, I had friends, but never felt that I was anyone’s “best friend”. I longed to be the person who got that first phone call or had people knocking at my door on the way to places. I wanted to be the one asked when a parent allowed one of my friends to have just one person over for a sleep over. As I grew older, the theme continued. I’d do almost anything to have you like me. I think it’s known as people pleasing.
Blaise "always" takes a nap at a certain time, and like clock work he wakes up at the same time. After months of this routine, nothing has changed. So why would I think today would be any different. Well, like I say, Welcome to Momhood... where even the predictable is unpredictable.
Which of the following situations send you over the edge? You ask your child to do something three times and he is still not listening. Your four year old is having a complete melt down over something you see as insignificant. You've had a long day and your teenager won't stop arguing with ...
Trust is vital in a good relationship, and of all the ingredients that create a really good relationship, trust is a biggie. How much should you trust? How soon should you give this trust? Are you jaded by some past jerk that lied to you or cheated on you? You don’t want to judge someone by another’s bad behavior, but.................... There are many men out there who have roving eyes and many who have roving bodies, you need to realize that every man is not a stinker. We have to get over our hurt and be open to new love. Don’t punish a new guy for the actions of a past guy.
Disorganization costs your business money. Not only that, it’s just plain stressful. You know the feeling, you want to find a certain document or an article you need for a project but you can’t find it. Or, things may be in such a state that you’re discouraged from even ...
We’ve all been there. You had a great idea, plan, or goal and were so enthusiastic about it. But as time went on fear and doubt started to creep into your mind. ‘Am I smart enough to do this?’ ‘Can I really succeed and pull this off?’ Once these types of thoughts form, exte al challenges start popping up. Maybe you run out of money, get sick, or have a new project given to you at work. Staying motivated is a huge challenge for most people, because it’s so easy to get off track.
Diversity in the workplace is extremely valuable - provided of course that all of the members of your team are making a strong contribution and are willing and able to learn from what others have to offer. After all, workplace diversity brings together those with different levels of education and experience; workplace diversity allows those who are fresh out of school to work alongside those who have had industry experience for a number of years and enables women in the workplace to contribute to the company by offering a different prospective along with the work that they put in.
All the top sales people who are committed to having a fulfilling experience in life are in a life coaching program. Well, I say all and that is a bold statement. I’ll explain. So many of the top salespeople I have worked with don’t care about having a fulfilling experience. They care about winning. They care about awards. They care about the juice, the next sale, the win. But then what happens to their lives?
I found myself in this beautiful light room. It must be one of those rooms you would find in a baroque palace. The ceiling was high and decorated with beautifully carved angels overlooking the whole room. On one side there were windows high enough to let the angels look into the world. On the other side was just white ...
I am sure you think as overrated the cliche that 'love is blind' - but neuroscience, this prodigy child of science, unveils with an almost cruel satisfaction that some areas of our brains shut down when love comes upon us, blinding the ration from the smart choices we should make. Brain scans ...
(An adaptation from a business article) Success allergy? How can that be? Success is a concept, not something you eat, drink, wear or come into a physical contact with. Even so, it does appear that a large number of people just may be allergic to success. Perhaps, not in the sense that you ...
Remember Lucy Van Pelt in the comic strip Charlie Brown? I woke this morning thinking about one of her famous lines, “I told you so, you blockhead!” Lucy was known for setting up a psychiatric booth in the neighborhood offering advice to her friends for five cents per person. Clearly she caught the entrepreneurial bug early but I’m not sure I’d want to get my business direction from her. : -) This got me thinking about how women entrepreneurs need to be cautious when seeking advice, coaching and mentoring on their road to success.
‘Tis the season for overindulging and weight gain. In fact, Americans gain more weight during November and December than during any other time of year. Want to stay on track with healthy eating and weight loss (or avoid weight gain) over the holidays? Here are six quick tips: 1. Don’t skip meals. When we let ourselves get too hungry, we predispose ourselves to binge eating and to grabbing the first thing we see—not a good weight control strategy. Plan your meals and make sure you provide yourself with a healthy breakfast and lunch.
Growing up I truly did not believe I had an athletic bone in my body. Participation in sports was not praised in my household, particularly by my father, who seemed to have a personal vendetta against any and all jocks, particularly those of the football-playing variety. The very unkind words coming from a fellow third grader (who shall remain nameless) during a game of gym class volleyball didn’t help either.
I arrive at the doctor's office five minutes late. It seems that's par for the course when you have a baby. It takes a lot for me to get anywhere. Gone are the days where I can wake up, throw on some clothes, pull my hair in a ponytail, grab a quick bite, brush my teeth, and head out the door in fifteen minutes. Yes, I still throw on some clothes, throw my hair back, grab a bite (if I'm lucky), brush my teeth and head out the door... the difference is it now takes me two hours to do that. And then I still arrive late.
There is nothing that has ever been done that hasn’t also been done with nothing. That is the nature of our Universe. We have an infinite number of tools to help us accomplish any task. We have an infinite number of nutritionals and pharmaceuticals to aid in any illness. We have an infinite number of doctors, coaches, counselors, and therapists to help us feel better.
My Life Coaching mentor, Dr. Randin Brons, Has once again hit a chord with this week Idea Generator. Celebrate differences. "Souls don't have races or sexes or religions. They are beyond artificial divisions." -- Brian Weiss Intolerance of differences always exists in people who don't know who they are, people who don't have a strong sense of their own authentic self; the soul within. Intolerance is rooted in fear. The basis for having a strong sense of self-esteem is to replace our unconscious idea of basic unworthiness with a conscious knowing of our fundamental inherent goodness.
For the last two weeks, I have had more space in my schedule and it has been wonderful. More space means that I have time to think. Time to do whatever needs to be done in that moment. Time to see friends that I have been meaning to see for too long.

Even through my 38 weeks of pregnancy, I never once imagined what motherhood would be like. I really never thought about being a single mom. Yes, you hear things will change, but I never truly understood it, which seems to be the case with most things, until you experience them.
The short answer is, You Bet! Too many people equate introversion with shyness, when in fact introverts are simply people who rely more on inner resources than outer ones, and deeply need a certain amount of solitude in which to re-charge their batteries.
Have you ever postponed some thing you really wanted or needed to do until you had a long Wanna-Do List later that never got fulfilled? Have you ever wished for extra time to sleep a bit more, read longer, or do something different? After you’ve finally found the time, have you found yourself doing something else, like flicking through TV channels, spending most of the day in bed or on the couch feeling drained of energy?
Congratulations! You’ve done it all. You graduated from college, got the job, are establishing yourself and then…BAM! The judgment starts. How much money do you make in a year? What is the long-term outlook for your career field? Where do you live? Can anyone have it all: a balanced work, social, and family life? You can feel the pressure coming from everywhere: your friends, family, and the media. One thing’s for sure, you don’t want to wake up middle-aged and wonder, ‘Is this all there is?’ This is where many people begin to feel trapped.
A couple of years ago I was looking for a solution to dream a larger dream for myself. I had been to some self-help seminars and New Age fairs and I still needed to decide on an occupation. I wanted to be a counsellor or therapist of some kind but I did not see how I was going to be in a position to manage to return to school for psychology or even a healing modality and also handle my bills. Then I found that I could train to be a coach and at the same time receive all the t
As a business owner do you ever find yourself trying to act the way you think your clients want you to? Or even more dangerous, are you trying to be more like your competition? Trying to “fit in” is not a smart business strategy. Conformity is not profitable and frankly it’s ...
It’s bad, really bad. You know that this job or career isn’t for you. It could be a nagging feeling, blatantly obvious circumstances, or negatively affecting your health. Maybe it’s so bad that all of your friends and family members know. Even though the writing is on the wall, you still wonder ‘Am I ready?’ ‘When is the right time to quit your job?’ These are normal questions to ask yourself. Leaving a job is a serious action that can have many effects on your finances, family, and future career options. This topic comes up a lot when working with my career coaching clients.

The True Man ShownnnnLive in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip. - Will RogersnnWhat is the truth? In the 1998 film, The Truman Show, Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank, a man whose whole life, unknown to him, is a non-stop TV show that is broadcast worldwide. We hear a lot in business literature about how it’s important to have an “elevator pitch” — a prepared speech about our business that’s so concise we could deliver it to someone on a brief elevator ride. We’re often told to memorize our elevator pitch and practice it in the mirror, making sure we look and sound appealing and confident. This may sound great in theory, but in my experience, when someone delivers an elevator pitch to me, it’s pretty obvious and painful.
Samuel Langho e Clemens, aka Mark Twain once said that “the worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself” and yet he himself suffered from massive insecurities of loneliness. Born premature, he spent the first seven years of his life as a “sickly and precarious child who lived mainly ...
