How to Unleash your Creative Thinking, for Ideas that PAY-Off. By Steven Donnini In our highly competitive world, we become more valuable as “Human Capital” if we can solve problems, or overcome obstacles at work and play. Creating new products and services becomes a valuable attribute of an employee, or team member, when they can think creatively on demand. In fact, one idea can change an entire industry, or change the game plan. There are many theories about how creativity works in the human mind, but what matters is what really works.

“It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked, through understanding” - Kahlil Gibran, 1883-1931, Lebanese Poet and Novelist“ _____ There’s an old saying that goes, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any path will take you there.” The same is true of personal development. When you start heading down the path of personal development you begin to grow — to evolve into something more than when you began your journey. But figuring out just what path to take when you set out is a major challenge in and of itself.
Having clearly defined goals are essential whether they are pertaining to your personal or your professional life. If you fail to have clear goals you would wind up confused regarding what it is you wish to achieve and you could end up simply stagnating. Such goals can provide you with the momentum and purpose in your life. Five Tips to help you to Define Clear Goals:
Forgiveness heals the pain of separation. “What you fail to forgive, you live.” – Unknown source Most people feel either guilty or resentful every day. I feel guilty when I did not meet that perfect picture of myself. I feel resentful when others did not meet my perfect expectations of them. Use this tool often to let go of guilt and resentment.
To Appease or not to Appease Is placating the answer? By Merna Throne, M.S.
Are your intentions honourable?! An age-old question asked by prospective fathers-in-law – and one that is at the very centre of whether or not you can achieve the success that you want out of life. In terms of aiming for success, we need to know what we intend to get. Truth is, most people have no idea what will give them peace of mind, contentment and happiness. Many believe that “enough” money will do the trick but the record shows that when people do have enough, their definition of enough simply shifts – enough turns into “more”.
It is estimated that over 80% of us make New Year’s resolutions of some kind. Yet how many of these last until the end of January, or even until the Christmas decorations are put away? Despite our best intentions many of our New Year’s resolutions are doomed to fail from the outset. Here are the top five reasons why New Year’s resolutions don’t work – and what you can do about them. 1. Low expectations – it’s almost an unwritten law that resolutions don’t work. Our friends, the media and society at large expect you to give up in the first week.
“I don’t have time to exercise.” “I can’t write better.” “I can’t accomplish that project. No one can. It is impossible for anyone to do that.” Most of us do a great job when it comes to giving excuses. It’s common for people to figure out fancy excuses. I used the word “fancy” deliberately. They do a great job a finding reasons and giving excuses. Take any unsuccessful person and you’ll find him great in the skill of giving excuses. Unsuccessful person and excellent skill of giving excuses – it is nothing but the Law of Attraction in action.
Self Esteem – “Serving others is good”… or is it? Self esteem is central to our survival. It is the basis of our well being. Entire books have been written on the subject of self esteem and yet, there is no single one unifying definition of self esteem. A confidence and satisfaction in oneself. - Webster's dictionary Self esteem is a state of mind. It is the way you feel and think about yourself and others, and is measured by the way you act. - Connie Paladino
When I started my career in health care nearly 20 years ago, I was struck by the compassion and care with which nurses and other professionals gave of themselves to their patients. It felt like home to me as I embarked upon my career as a caring professional. But I also noticed how unhappy and stressed people were. I noticed that people who CARE often do not show that same level of compassion to themselves or to coworkers. In nursing, especially, there was an “eat their young” mentality.
I recently asked my good friend, top marketer T.J. Rohleder, "If you had one minute to say something to somebody who was interested in marketing, what would you say?" Here's T.J.'s pithy response: "I would say, find the people within the market you want to target who are making a lot of money ...
Eager to improve and learn something new? Want to speed-read, perhaps? Or improve your goal-setting skills? Oh, we have something in common. I adore discovering new horizons myself. Thatâs why I always have at hand my list of 10 self-development websites, which I randomly open when I want to the unknown. Let me share them. TED TED talks are perhaps one of the biggest self-development resources available to anyone. You can watch these talks on your mobile device or home comp
Spring arrived late this year; which for me makes it even more delicious! In Fort Tryon Park with the Hudson River and clear blue sky as backdrop stands an imposing pink flowering dogwood tree. Or, as I call it, a big beautiful pink tree that I worship on my daily morning walks. It makes me so happy to see it, smell it and stand under it. Sometimes a gentle breeze will cause a stirring of pale pink blossoms to fall on my uptu ed face. Feeling their aromatic softness is truly heaven’s touch.
We are all in transition because change is a constant in our lives. I love to sit at the beach, close to the water’s edge, and watch and listen to the waves coming up on the shore. Each time a wave recedes there is a rustling sound as the sand granules and small pebbles shift position. ...
We all know what HR stands for. Every company has one, big or small. Whenever there is a problem or concern, the HR department will address the issue and create a solution. So what if we are talking about ourselves? Would if we have an issue that stems from us internally and does not require outsourcing to an HR department? Many of us do not have an on-call HR department to access when there is an immediate problem which has arisen in our lives. In a past article submission titled, “How Bad Do You Want Change?”, I discussed the other meaning of HR.
n n Personal Development nThe development of the Character Strengths and Virtues (CSV) handbook represents the first attempt on the part of the research community to identify and classify the positive psychological traits of human beings. Much like the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of general psychology, the CSV provides a theoretical framework to assist in developing practical applications for positive psychology. This manual identifies six clas
Listen to that voice inside your head, "You can do it!" You know you can do it, what's stopping you? Is it fear? What are you afraid of? It’s failing. Fear of failing is always the biggest obstacle in anybody's path to realizing his or her success. But why should you let that obstacle stop you? Obstacles are good for only one reason, for us to overcome them. So go around it, go over it, go under it, or smash right through it! There is no obstacle, no wall, no gate, no anything too big to get over, under, around, or through.
Most people will always find something to stress them out – their job, their boss, their financial situation, their husband, their wife, their boyfriend or girlfriend, their teenage children, their health, their golf, their holidays! I have one client who telephoned my one day a few years back to tell me that he was stressed out. When I enquired what the perceived problem might be, he told me “I’m stressed out because I’ve nothing to be stressed out about!” Seriously!
How many times have you made a promise to yourself; perhaps to exercise, to eat well, or to start a new project, only to find that (for one reason or another) you had to break your commitment? In these moments you likely rationalized your change of plans; someone needed your support, or something more urgent came up, and you went about supporting everyone (and everything) else in your life – except you. I have a truth for you. Every time you fail to follow through on a promise you’ve made to yourself you chip away at your self confidence. Picture a piggy bank.
The Role Cycle It's official: Married women over 40 have the best sex. 81% are more adventurous than when they were in their twenties, and 63% are more confident in bed. We live in a Universe of Laws and Rules. The Universe is harmonious and precise. It does not fail, even when we think it is being though on us. One of the Universal Laws that has become the focus of attention and conversations lately, due to the huge success of the hit movie “The Secret”, is the ...
Personal development or self improvement is all about awareness and, in particular, self awareness. But do you actually know what awareness is? Certainly, much has been written and said about it – but, all too often, the simple has been over-complicated. And, because the psychology of the normal mind means that most of us are completely unaware – or mindless – we have great difficulty understanding a concept that we have never actually experienced. So, here’s a simple question – the answer to which will provide you with both a major insight and a major opportunity.
Developing a clear vision about yourself and your business might be the most important factor in determining your success as a leader. The clearer you are in what you want to achieve and the path to achieving it, the better are your chances of success and your abilities to lead others to success as well. Visualize your ideal future in 1/3/7 years and strive to think about it “as already achieved” every day. The more you visualize, the higher your ability will be to make it come true.
What are the easiest ways to spot an ineffective career coach who won’t be helpful in moving you forward? This week I heard from a lovely woman in another state who shared with me a story about a career coach she hired this year. This coach, in the end, was of no help at all. I have to say, if I’ve heard this once, I’ve heard it one hundred times.
These days we hear a lot about Cosmic Ordering, The Secret, the Law of Attraction and the fact that like attracts like. If this were true then surely it would benefit all of us to learn how to live our lives a little more positively. And even if it's not true – what have we got to lose by becoming at least a little more positive in our daily lives? Surely our lives would be more pleasurable if we lived this way. So, with this in mind, here are a few handy 'tips and hits' to help you to live your life in a more upbeat and optimistic way.
Be careful what you wish for ‘cos you might just get it... so says the old expression. Of course, wishing, hoping or wanting won’t get you very far in life because, at the end of the day, we get what we believe – not what we wish for – and believing is not wishing, hoping or wanting, believing is seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling and tasting what you want as if you have it already.
My business passion is helping executives get out of their own way. Some of that work involves helping them come to terms with the business implications of the following: The human brain is geared, at least in part, to keep us comfortable and that "comfort" rather than "truth" predisposes us to doing dumb things, including making the same kinds of seemingly irrational mistakes over, and over, and over ⦠In last month's column, I said the following: "Wisdom is NOT an automat
Do you remember playing Hide and Seek as a child… searching and searching for your friends? For some of us this game, which used to be so much fun, has never truly ended. The game is the same, but instead the area that was confined by a playground fence has been expanded to the entire world. Rather than looking behind trees and in old tractor tires, we now search in things such as love, time, money, marriage, promotions, other people, and the list goes on. The relentless pursuit we once engaged in to find our friends has now become a desire to find happiness.
If your life isn’t all that you want it to be or if you’re unhappy with yourself – what you think is going on has nothing to do with reality! Decades of research prove that the normal subconscious mind quite literally makes up your reality for you. This personal version of reality has absolutely nothing to do with the real thing.
Winners Give Up Giving Upr When I think of ‘hanging in there’, I’m reminded of this story by Earl Nightingale, called “Acres of Diamonds”, from Our Changing World radio transcript: One of the most interesting Americans who lived in the 19th century was a man by the name of Russell Herman Conwell. He was born in 1843 and lived until 1925. He was a lawyer for about fifteen years until he became a clergyman. One day, a young man went to him and told him he wanted a college education but couldn't swing it financially. Dr. Conwell decided, at that moment, what his aim in lifer
Happiness comes from within. Only you can make yourself happy. Money, relationships, and other exte al factors cannot give you happiness, as explained in this Tibetan proverb: “Seeking happiness outside of ourselves is like waiting for sunshine in a cave facing north”. Here are five ways to feel happier every day, regardless of your circumstances. Think More Positive Thoughts Positive people are happy people. They make every day of their lives count and they look for opportunities everywhere, even in the midst of difficult situations.
I heard that line - dream beyond the common order of things - in an advertisement for tea, of all places. Yet the words jumped out at me like a vivid memory. I know that I have had many times in my life when I have created things bigger tha I thought I knew how to achieve, and personally produced results that even left me in a state of bewilderment about what was possible for my life. Have you ever experienced those moments? They are well worth revisiting and building on. They are your key to producing such results again, if you still have some more big dreams to accomplish.
I've often quoted the World Health Organization's contention that stress will kill more people in the developed world in the 21st century than anything else. And, as far as I can see, they've got it spot on - it appears, from surveys, research and my own work, that the modern workplace is not a pleasant place, that the well-wo statistic that most over two-thirds of people don't like what they do to earn money, is actually grinding people down.
by Lauren Kennedy - http://laurenpkennedy.wordpress.com "Knock. Knock." " Who’s there?" " Truth." " Truth Who?" " Mine or Yours?" And there in lies the dilemma. And the source of immense conflict. We like to think that truth is absolute, explicit, definite, unambiguous and most of all knowable. But what is truth? Are there universal truths that apply to everyone and everything, at all times, in every situation, rigid and inflexible?
We live in a very abundant world - a world FULL of Infinite Possibilities! I find very often though, people are so busy just "surviving" they can't see the possibilities around them. Why is this? When it is so evident to many of us that there are so many possibilities, why do so many people struggle and barely survive? I believe it is a result of the past conditioning, and limitations that so many of us have grown up with.
There are numerous meditation methods for you to try and those who are skeptic about it should simply keep an open mind. For those who are really interested, you have to do some research to find out which is the best for you. To help you along the way, here are a few that can be done without the help of an expert. The first is called Meditation by Walking which is very popular among monks. This activity is far different from the rest because it combines physical activity with mental conditioning in order to relieve stress immediately.
Every year I am faced with new challenges that push my personal and professional development further into research, training, and application. Over the years, I’ve learned to embrace change and adapt to my current environment--seeking a better way to achieve success. For me, this “self-seeking” mindset originated from my military training using Army terms like “adapt and overcome.” I’m thankful for this mindset because I’ve learned how to translate this philosophy into successes in other areas in life.
The average person goes through their adult life in a daze. Research indicates that they are incapable of devoting any appreciable level of attention to anything. It suggests that they only experience what they expect to experience and that the routine tasks of everyday life are done completely mindlessly. If that weren't enough research also indicates that the average person gets what they expect out of life - and that their expectations are very low, given that they are predisposed to being negative. Wow - what an awful, but accurate, picture of the average life.
A lot of us have a problem with the wording Extreme Self-Care. To some, it means an act of self-centeredness, being self-serving, in short being a jerk, always looking out for number one. However, what it really means is that in order to be more helpful and compassionate toward others we need to be strong ourselves. When we are flying, we are told that in case of an emergency we need to put the oxygen mask on ourselves first. Extreme Self-Care is about looking at every aspect of YOU and making step-by-step improvements until you reach your own goals in the areas that need your attention.
You may find yourself dissatisfied with your life. You may find yourself trying to find a way to break away from stress, uncertainty, insecurity and anxiety. Or you may have simply reached a point in your life when you know there must be so much more to be had out of life – beyond the ordinary everyday existence that passes for living. But you are not as far from your hopes, aspirations, goals and dreams as you might believe.
‘Care’ or compassion is an essential ingredient in the profession of nursing as well as many other caring professions. Without compassion, you might as well come up with another name for “nurse” because without “care” it’s not “nursing”. But it’s not just nursing that requires compassion, or caring professions for that matter. Everyone you interact with over the course of your day has the right to some level of respect. Oftentimes, people are so focused on their own agenda that they forget they are dealing with other human beings with their own agenda and priorities.
PSYCH-ENERGETICS™: A PATHWAY TO THE SUBCONSCIOUS AND THE ENERGETIC MATRIX
This is one of my favourite topics I love to write about. It is along the same topic as another article I have written some time ago called, “You are the Magician of Your Life.” As the title speaks, how do you discover your unlimited potentials?
Have you ever wished that you could simply go to a store and say, “I’d like a pound of self-confidence , please?” Tell me where to purchase and for sure a long stretch of people leads to this store! So what then is self-confidence? How can we get it if we need a bottomless supply? This article provides some of the answer. Have you ever tried looking at your body in a full-length mirror? Did you feel a tinge of shyness? Did you cringe at your image? Did you wish you could be more accepting of yourself and carried yourself better?
Talents and Skills do you know what are the differences in the two? An illustration of talent is. You may be born with talent in drawing, you can draw the most beautiful drawing since young. However, if you do not put in effort to continue drawing and focusing your time and energy to nurture talents, chances of you becoming a successful artist is slim.
It was in October 1982 in my home town of Berlin located in the suburbs of central Connecticut. It was a brisk 60 degrees outside and fall was reaching its peak. I was waiting to pick up my stack of newspapers from the New Britain Herald on the corner of Wildemere Drive and Lower Lane. I wasn’t in a hurry this particular Friday afte oon and didn’t have any obligations to speak of except for perhaps a game of flashlight tag come nightfall with some of my neighborhood friends. I decided I was going to walk my route today instead of riding my bike like I normally did.
https://www.gofundme.com/cellfighter6 In December of 2014 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 head and neck cancer. I struggled greatly with the decision to undergo chemotherapy and radiation instead of fighting the disease strictly through natural alte atives. With such a treatable form of cancer and the promise of eradication through modern cancer care, I chose that path – but in combination with alte ative healing methods proven to fight and prevent malignant tumors.
Personal development, self growth, self improvement, self help or whatever you may like to call it-it refers to something of a higher plane. I like calling it personal development. In this article we’ll find out what actually personal development is? The so called life skills and personal development training companies want you to believe that personal development is all about skills-different skills-analytical, logical, leadership (I hate this word) and communication.
Often our lives are a direct result of that which we believe. It includes it all, the good, the bad and the really ugly. Have you stopped to think why some things are not working out as you expected them to be? Does it seem to you like money comes, and money goes, and sometimes, mostly goes, and keeps on going? You think you’ve found the perfect mate and before too long, he or she, turns out to be the mate from hell. Are you frustrated about no matter what you do; things just don’t turn out your way?
