One way of looking at today’s world would be to say that it is the age of being offended, and this is due to how a lot of people behave. While there are some people who are offended from time to time, there are others who are offended practically all the time.

When it comes to the former, it could be said that this is simply part of life and not something that can be changed. However, when it comes to the latter, it could be said that this is something that can be changed.

Imperfect

If, for example, the world was perfect, there would be no reason for someone to get offended. They would be able to live their life without coming into contact with anyone who would have a negative effect on them.

In addition to this, there would be no reason for them to see anything online that they don’t agree with. One can then relax when they are in the real world and when they browse the web.

Reality

When one can see that there are always going to be things that they don’t agree with and they don’t allow these things to define their life, it could be said that they are behaving like an adult. This doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t change the world if they had the chance, but that they realise there is nothing they can do about it.

Therefore, if they were to get worked up about it, they would be wasting their time and energy on something that they can’t change. And as one is not going to live forever, it could be said that this is a good approach to have.

Stepping Back

But when they come across something that causes them to experience a strong reaction, it doesn’t mean that they will allow their emotions to control them. This could be a time when they will reflect on why they feel this way.

Through doing this, it will allow them to see if they feel offended because of what they have read, or if what they have been exposed to has simply triggered what is within them. What this will show is that one has a good level of self-awareness, and that they are emotionally intelligent.

A Grey Area

It could then be said that one will realise that there is going to be more than one way of looking at something. And this is something that they will be able to look into through having the ability to step back from the thoughts and feelings that are within them.

So, instead of acting like a robot, one will be behaving in a conscious manner. If they were to do this and to see that it is about what is taking place within them, they will be able to take responsibility for what has taken place.

Emotional Strength

Yet, if it is due to what is taking place externally, they can look into what they can do about it. It might be clear what they can do about it, or they may find that there is a not a lot that they can do.

What this can then show is that the part of their brain that regulates how they feel is going to be functioning in the right way. This is something that is going to play a big part in their ability to maintain their centre.

Purpose

Along with this, one is likely to have other things in their life that are far more important. This could show that they are passionate about one thing or a number of things, and this will stop them from being drawn into things that will waste their time.

Through being so engrossed in their career, for instance, one is generally not going to allow what people say or do to consume them. This is then something that keeps them on the right track.

A Different Experience

When one has the tendency to be offended, they can believe that they should be able to live their life without being offended. But instead of looking into what is taking place within them, they can focus on what is taking place externally.

It is then going to be down to other people to change, as they are going to be nothing more than an observer of what is taking place. There is then the chance that they will look for things that will offend them (and this can take place unconsciously).

A Strong Reaction

So, when one is offended by something, there will be how they feel through having this experience. At the same time, this can also be a time when they will get a boost from seeing themselves as being morally superior.

One is then going to have the moral high ground through being offended, and there will be no reason for them to take a step back. This is then going to be something that is black and white, and they won’t need to see if there is another way of looking at what is taking place.

Emotionally Unstable

Through being offended by just about everything, it can show that one lacks the ability to regulate their own emotions. The part of their brain that performs this task can be out of action.

As they are not mentally and emotionally stable, it is then going to be normal for them to be tossed around by the external world. And what can make it even worse for them is that they might not have a sense of purpose.

Caught Up

There is then nothing in their life to stop them getting distracted by what other people say and do. Their mind needs something to do, and as one is not supplying anything, it ends up creating unnecessary problems.

Or, if their life does have meaning, it could come down to the fact that being offended has become the reason for their existence. Thus, if they were to stop themselves from getting caught up in what other people say and do, they might experience a deep sense of emptiness.

Awareness

If one can relate to this and they want to change their life, they might need to work with a therapist or a healer. This will give them the chance to develop their emotional strength and the ability to observe what is taking place within them.

And through doing this, it will give them the opportunity to look into what will give their life meaning.
