There she was, walking along in the mall, focused on the cell phone in her hand. The security camera was watching as she approached the area of the fountain and the pool filled with water. Other shoppers were in the area but they too were focused – on where they were walking. In the background were storefronts, with people entering and exiting the shops. It was a normal mall scene.

On September 15, 2005 David and I went to see the Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden. It was our way of celebrating our 50th birthdays, which came three weeks apart. David had been my best friend in high school. We only see each other once a year now. He is on the road 300 days a year traveling to places like Tajikistan to help people with the treatment and prevention of AIDS. We get together each year to celebrate the ridiculousness of how old we’re getting and how long we’ve known each other.
Undeserved Forgiveness. Wow, those 2 words together are powerful! I believe that God grants us undeserved forgiveness and that, in turn, we are meant to allow the same for others. Actually doing it .…..well that’s the hard part. As a Christian, I know and believe that it’s possible to achieve this but I can tell you that it’s something that I have to continuously work on. And perhaps it will be a lifelong journey. Every time I think I’m getting close, I’m tested again and realize that I’m not quite there.

In my twelve years as a professional organizer I’ve run into many women who are still trying to keep house just like “Mom” did. So, what’s wrong with that? After all, Mom was the role model. There would be nothing wrong with that if Mom’s life was comparable to the lives of women today. When I look at my mother’s reality compared to mine, there are major differences: • For most of the years that we three children were at home, she did not work outside the home. Therefore, s
There is a fable that I heard a couple of years ago that really resonated with me, and I would like to share it with the readers here: A university philosophy lecturer walked into a packed lecture theatre one day with an empty bucket in his hand. He was known for being a bit eccentric so the students thought nothing of it. The lecturer walked over to a table at the front of the theatre and proclaimed that he would teach them all a valuable life-lesson in this lecture. He aske
I, like millions of other people, tuned in when Oprah was interviewed by Barbara Walters. I enjoyed listening to her talk about her career and the various stories she has done on her show. But when she started talking about her friendship with Gayle King, and how special of a relationship they have, it struck a cord with me! You see…. 22yrs ago I found my Gayle.I think all women are looking for their Gayle. Over the years , the television networks have prospered heavily from airing shows with Oprah and Gayle type relationships. Lucy and Ethel. Lave e and Shirley. Thelma and Louise.
The introduction of Appleâs new iPhone 4, is only one indicator of the rapidly growing and rnconstantly improving market for cell phones. The number of smart phones being purchased and used in California has greatly increased, allowing users to access various applications any place at any time. Inevitably, this has lead to the increase of text messaging while performing other tasks. One such example of this growing trend: texting while driving. In fact, this became such a c
After its sweeping win at the Oscars last Sunday, Slumdog Millionaire seems like the movie everyone wants, and perhaps needs. It has all the ingredients of escapist fare from the Great Depression -- a populist hero who overcomes all odds to get the girl and the money. There's an added element of self-congratulation for the West: by seeing this movie you can see India without getting your hands dirty or offending your nose, and cheer it on. Cinderella didn't walk through tenem
Children are blessings from the Creator. In Bible times, the measurement of God’s favor in your life is through how many children you have. But whether we admit it or not, it is not easy to raise them. They are like brand new white canvass and depending how you mold them, that will how they will become in the near future. Below are four essential things that your kids really need to have that will greatly impact their whole being and how they perceive life in general. 1. Self Esteem
Dougald MacDonald - a great writer, climber, and all-around guy - wrote a brilliant post yesterday about the tragic passing of climber Craig Luebben (http://themountainworld.blogspot.com/2009/08/no-consolation.html). In it, he discusses at length the commonly-heard phrase: "Well, at least he died doing what he loved." In his post, Dougald mentions the also-recent passing of famed alpinist Riccardo Cassin, noting that "Craig died young and Cassin lived to 100 and died in bed.
When the kidâs mom passed away I had so many emotions rushing through me. Anger, anxiety, fear, concern and sorrow were just a few to mention. I was not at all prepared for her passing. My only concern at the time was what the hell do we do now? I believed that I was mentally prepared for raising my kids as a single parent, but totally naïve as to what that meant. I had so much coming at me that I was honestly in a fog for quite some time. I never ever sat down and thought
Recently, some friends are hanging around confiding to me issues about break ups, make ups, and some were asking if their relationship is worth pursuing. I came to a point doubting myself if I were in the position to handle their ques and give them advise since I had just gone through a major turning point in my life which I have already acknowledged as part of my uniqueness. And yes, that thought made me say to myself "I am worthy and I am good enough.." Why not??! I have been there and done that! I am in better position to help. That thought empowered me.
Modern living, individual circumstances, and tastes that have been formed over a lifetime may not permit us to eat perfectly. That’s okay. If we keep our sight on the goal of matching food to our genetic design, we can slip here and there. The body is forgiving and health does not require ...
« I am the actor of my life. However, I know the script but I've forgotten my vibrator! » (copyright Jenni Parker-Brown Leaning towards our dreams is a balancing act. Similar to a dancer spinning towards a victorious arabesque, if we dance too fast and without direction, when we lift upwards into the points of our ballet shoes, we risk teetering over and falling into the orchestra pit. If we become too fixed on the goal and the outcome, we lose the delight of the choreography that precedes.
Our great intellect is in large part necessary because of the quest for food. A cow is as smart as it needs to be to figure out how to eat what is always underfoot. The apex predator—clawless, fangless man—needs great cunning, memory, logic, and analytical thought. The spear and ...

I was recently asked to share my story of courage and the first thing that came to my mind was that my story isn’t that remarkable. It doesn’t seem to me that it’s much different than that of so many other people. I would like to say that when I was out there on that limb and hanging on for dear life, that my incredible FAITH led me there and comforted me. And it sounds great to say that I had courage in the face of difficulty. But in all honesty, I was pretty much pushed out on that limb and I was scared beyond belief.

Drinking and driving is obviously a mistake for many reasons. One of the effects of a 'driving under the influence' conviction that many people fail to realize - is just how severely your car insurance rates can be affected. If you're covered by a policy at the time you're convicted of a DUI, your rates may increase dramatically or your policy may be canceled. If you don't have car insurance at the time of a DUI conviction, you may find it very difficult securing future cover
Inspiration Remember when you were little, and you had the paint-with-water books. It was just a book with little dots of paint on the page and you would take a paintbrush and create a masterpiece. After that, your parents would get you a paint-by-numbers book that simply associated a colour with a number and you would paint that colour in the designated area. After that most of us stopped colouring. What if Brad Romer told you painting can be done by anyone? Sure, we are no
I never think of myself as a pack rat. Maybe the love of much. Maybe too much? But there are times when I look around the house and I can’t find the dog or I delve into drawers and come up empty handed or I find myself crawling around closet floors in search of a runaway shoe. I end up ...
elizabeth: Number One with a bullet: For the love of God and everything we hold dear in this world, do not, I repeat, do not buy sweat pants for comfort while working. You can be just as brilliant in your own damn trousers! I fell under the spell of “well, they are kind of cool black sweats and I did not buy them at Wal-Mart and I could even go walking with them on” line of crap. I don’t care if Giorgio Armani designed sweats for his couture line. Do not wear them at home while working.
1.Dream - It is important to have a dream. The majority of successful people had a dream and in fact, most people have a dream; it is the fulfilment of your dreams, that might become a challenge. Be one of the people who follow their dream! 2. Conceptualize your dream – Make your dream something concrete in your mind and it will appear to be more within your grasp. 3. Identify your God-given talent – Initially, it may be difficult to identify your talent. However, as you gradually begin to disce your strengths, take hold of them and build on them for therein lie your talents.
Recently Charles Blow of the New York Times cited some studies suggesting that people between the ages of 18 and 29 are “moving away from organized religion while simultaneously trying desperately to connect with their spirituality.” I believe this is true for vast numbers of people of all ages. We find ourselves in a time when untold numbers are searching for a deeper sense of fulfillment in their lives. People everywhere are looking for answers.
Ups and downs, everyone has them. In work, in life, in relationships, even in fun. Imagine a week where you feel utterly alone and single, blessed with plenty of friends, stressed because you are working too much, grateful because you love your work. You receive a call from a loved one struggling with addiction, a friend whose husband is battling cancer, yet several friends call to check on you, pray for you, and invite you out.
Successful business women no matter what industry or career path they choose, share many similar qualities and personality traits. Women entrepreneurs are able to overcome adversity and bounce back quickly. They are resilient.r

This month a miracle occurred. Two of my psychotherapy clients fell in love. (Not with each other.) Falling in love is always a miracle. But this is different. Both of my clients are in their late 30’s. Neither of them have ever had a boyfriend that they like, have great sex with, and is nice. One is bringing a boyfriend home for Thanksgiving for the first time in his life. Now that is something to be thankful for.

As I sat in church listening to the pastor explain how meaningful names were in the Old Testament, the impact of my past hit me. The pastor used the example of Abram becoming Abraham, Father of Many Nations, yet he held that title for over 25 years before he fathered his son, Isaac. Imagine what people thought for 25 years as he called himself that. They probably laughed. I'm guessing the older he got, the louder the laughter became. After all, he was nearly 100 when he fathered Isaac. Abraham and Sarah were probably the only parents buying Depends and Pampers at the same time!
One of the most powerful ways to change your self-image is to replace negative thoughts about yourself with positive ones. You do this by taking time each day to visualize how you would like to be. The more you visualize your ideal self-image, the more you will actualize it in your life. This doesnât happen as a result of wishful thinking; it happens because you are activating and releasing the inner potential that is currently dormant within you. You are waking up your COR
Stop! If you have published a book this information has the potential to explode your one book publishing idea into residual income you have left on the table at every book signing, talk, or workshop. How many times have you told someone you wrote a book and they proceeded to tell you how they too long to publish a book? You probably referred them to your publisher, or encouraged them to hang in there.
Education is an important aspect of every childâs life. For a country to prosper it should have 100 percent literacy level which solely depends on the education structure built by the government. A strong sense of humor seemed to be in my family’s genes along with freckles and being musically challenged. My father’s wit was so sharp it induced paper cuts, but we’d laugh at the brilliance and the total silliness of his one-liners or odd little stories. In grammar ...
As we enter into the new year each day brings us closer to the year 2012. Children have been bombarded with much of the doom and gloom and we as a society should be aware of the sensitivity that this issue may have on young children.
Dearest Darling Friends, “u know whats ur speciality…. u think for others standing in their position….n for urself standing in ur own position. so simple….n beautiful. lesson learnt …thank u…. luvvvv uuuu” I received the words presented above, in a mail from the incredibly talented and stylish, Pallavi Savla. Part of being an adult means knowing how and why to better yourself. When we're children, we gain so much knowledge and experience in a relatively short amount of time. We go from being unable to feed ourselves to walking, speaking, and understanding complex concepts such as math and science. As we age, we can feel less motivated to better ourselves and immense dissatisfaction as a result. Here are five tips for becoming your best adult self. 1. Sleep You might not realize ho
Ever wondered how we keep adding more stuff into the gray matter between our ears each second and never really worry about how long it could hold it all in together? Yes, it is undeniably the most sophisticated storage system to be found in the Universe but we do need to leave room for better stuff to get in there from time to time. Your brain may be filled with so much clutter that could in fact be standing in the way of you progressing in any aspect of life. I am not refer

The strongest, most courageous, most enlightened people succumb to it. Coaches do it. Happy people still do it. Masters of manifestation slip up occasionally. What is the habit that we can't seem to kick? Complaining. No matter where we are on our path to glory, when we feel fragile, tired, lost and confused, we just can't resist it! It is a serious addiction that needs to be taken very un-seriously if we are to kick it. It is absolutely impossible to expand into our great, true ever-selves while we keep moaning about the tight fit!

Creating H.E.A.R.T driven goals. Christina Tangora Schlachter, PhDr All Content under Copyright ©2010 Dr. Christina Tangora Schlachter /Dr. Mommy ® For years I coached organizations and leaders on how to create “S.M.A.R.T.” goals – or goals which were Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
