Ginseng leaves help fight cancer
“A strong substance that reinforces the immune system's ability to fight cancer has recently been found in ginseng leaves, not roots. A joint research project by Cheon Jun, a professor at Korea University Medical Center, and professor Park Se-ho of the Graduate School of Life Science and Biotechnology confirmed Tuesday that a polysaccharide called MB-40, which is extracted from ginseng leaves, performed successfully as an anti-cancer agent in a test on 400 mice. Several cancer-fighting substances have been discovered in ginseng root so far, but this is the first time they have been found in ginseng leaves.”

This book excels not only in explaining the cause and nature of anxiety disorders and phobias but also in describing treatments. Director of the Anxiety Treatment Center in Santa Rosa (California), Bourne emphasizes the cognitive-behavioral model of treatment but includes information on biopsychiatry, intense psychotherapy, and spirituality as additional treatment modalities. This is truly a "workbook," with exercises designed to facilitate recovery, either through private use or in conjunction with professional therapy.

If your library already owns the 1990 edition and money is an object, you can probably pass on this revision, which updates the definitions of anxiety and phobia so that they conform with the new DSM-IV diagnostic criteria and includes new information on the biological causes of anxiety and related treatment developments. *** HEALTHY RECIPES - Pumpkin Spice Bread ***

2 c unbleached flour
1 c brown sugar, packed
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tsps cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
1 15 oz canned pumpkin
1/2 c skim milk
2 egg whites, whipped
1/3 c fat-free sour cream

1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Prepare a bundt pan with cooking spray, set aside.
3. Combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves in a large mixing bowl. 4. In a medium mixing bowl, combine pumpkin, skim milk, egg whites and sour cream. 5. Spoon the pumpkin mixture into the flour mixture and mix just until moistened. 6. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 60 minutes.

18 servings; 112 Cal, less than one gram Fat, 3g Pro, 28g Carb, 1mg Chol, 116mg Sod
