This article will walk you through the fast and easy way to organize your home office. Are you ready to get your home office organized?

1. Remove the Clutter: Clutter can decrease our productivity just by being around it. Start with a trash bag and a recycling bin. Next form two different empty spaces – in for example the corner of a room – you’ll use these spaces to sort things.

One of the cleared spaces is for items “to be determined”, this means you need to make a choice about that item – to keep it or get rid of it. The other space is for things to “go elsewhere.” What this means is that the items need to go somewhere else in your home, need to be returned to someone, or need to be given to someone or donated.

Now it’s time to take action. Crank up your favorite tune and run around your office cleaning up garbage and recycling and tossing it!
If you aren’t sure if you can toss it an item, put it aside in the “to be determined” space you formed.

Challenge yourself to get all of your garbage and recycling together before your song comes to an end. This is also a great way to get some exercise in!

Next, put on a new song and round up all of the things that need to go somewhere else, put them in your “go elsewhere” space. Try to finish this during the course of only one song too.

2. Organize Your Cables & Cords: An abundance of tangled cords and cables, which create clutter and make our office look messy and most of us suffer from the problem. It can be time consuming and frustrating to figure out which cords goes with which electronic. Not to mention they are dust collectors and can be tripping hazardous, especially if you have children.

I suggest getting some Cable Capture Cord Organizers. Having tried just about every cord organizer that exists on the market these are the BEST, in my opinion!

3. Get Your Papers and Files Organized, Once and For All: Now is the time! A typical American wastes 55.2 minutes EVERYDAY looking for something, and the #1 thing they are spending time looking for, lost papers and files! Make your home office filing system efficient, you should be able to find any paper in your office in 30 seconds or less.

An Active File System should be used for any paper you need to take action on. An active file system is part of your home office filing system; its’ purpose is to make sure that your papers are brought to your attention when they need you to take action on them. Why is this important? So that you don’t miss any deadlines or forget about anything important. In addition knowing these papers are not going to be missed allows you to put them away without obsessing about missing or forgetting something.

Follow these three straightforward steps to be on your way to having a more organized home office and home office filing system .
