“If a man constantly aspires, is he not elevated?” - Henry David Thoreau

The pursuit to be in control of one’s life is powerful, yet life does challenge each and every one of us. No one goes unscathed in their life’s journey. Who hasn’t experienced loss of some kind?

It can be a loss of a job, health issues causing major changes, divorce, bankruptcy, passing of a loved one, or anything that can turn your life upside-down. Events causing transition from life as you have known it can leave you feeling helpless. You question the uncertainty of the future and your abilities. It is not uncommon for your thoughts to spin with doubt, fear, anxiety and worry. However, those thoughts just lead you down a dark path. There is light and it is within you. You are meant to thrive from your own special gifts.

Despair, grief and bewilderment are natural emotions to loss. It is also natural to evolve to a deeper understanding of your true grit as you look to the future.

Here is a time to ask yourself questions such as:

1. How can I grow from this situation in a way that honors my authenticity?

2. Where in the past did I succeed in spite of formidable circumstances?

3. What self-leadership internal and external practices did I use to succeed?

4. What can I control?

5. What do I need to let go to pursue a new direction?

During extraordinary circumstances it is amazing how human beings come through it stronger, wiser and contributing in ways they never thought possible. Self-leadership is the key to accepting and taking appropriate action on challenges.

Tips to Soar Through Transition:

• Don’t try to control what is out of your control. Recognizing this frees you up to take responsibility for what you can control.

• Make a list of resources you need to help you to move forward. In transition there are a number of opportunities to develop self awareness. Self-awareness is a pathway towards allowing you to stretch your potential and creativity.

• Find a mentor, preacher, coach or a friend who has your best interests at heart to assist and support you through the process of change. Change can be like a roller coaster and the synergistic relationship facilitates your transition.

• Take time to heal and get grounded. Do whatever it takes to help you heal. Life is not a linear journey. As you move through the healing process acknowledge the loss, and also acknowledge your strengths. Extraordinary leadership has arisen from people who found themselves in dreadful circumstances and rose above it.

• Listen to your intuition and your body while moving through the transition. Be careful not to second guess or try to renegotiate with your intuition. There are a number of books on developing intuition you might enjoy reading.

• Be true to yourself. When you are true to your self, you pave the way for being true to others.

• Remember to follow your bliss and Anything Is Possible!
