“With your spirit open and unconstricted, look at things from a high point of view.”—Miyamato Musashi

December is a time of endings. We wrap up another full year of our lives and start to lift our gaze to the next one. One of the traditions I really enjoy this time of year are the ‘year in review’ retrospectives you see on TV, in the newspapers, and online.

I love looking back at the last 12 months and remembering. As well as noticing what I forgot! (Oh, that happened this year?!). It seems such a great way to look at things in perspective. In the moment this thing or that happens, it may seem overly important or completely insignificant. But, with the passage of time and other events, the year takes shape. Some events takes on significance while others turn out to be no big deal (in spite, sometimes, of our reaction in the moment!). It’s our history in the making.

So, I decided this year I would do my own personal look back at 2007. Maybe you’d like to try it too! I’ve written below twelve ideas for exploration in our personal “year in review”. Choose those that resonate with you. Perhaps write your answers in a journal, create a collage or scrapbook. Talk about them with your friends and family. And, most importantly, explore them in celebration (not judgment) of a rich and meaningful year!

5 things I’ll fondly remember about 2007 are….

5 funniest things that happened were….

5 cool new people I got to know…..

5 adventures I experienced….

5 interesting or inspiring things I read, heard, or saw…..

5 unexpected or surprising things that happened…..

5 ways I got ‘better’….

5 new things I tried….

5 of my proudest accomplishments….

5 things I am most grateful for…..

5 things I learned…..

5 reasons I can’t wait to start 2008…..

Have fun looking at your year in review! Have a wonderful end to 2007. See you in the New Year!!
