Sun enters Taurus: April 19 2008 @ 12:51 pm Eastern Time
Full Moon in Scorpio: April 20 2008 @ 6:25 am Eastern Time
New Moon in Taurus: May 5 2008 @ 8:18 am Eastern Time
Keywords for Taurus: Patient, persistent, determined, stubborn.
The sign of Aries, the sign that precedes Taurus, represents new beginnings and the planting of new seeds. What naturally arises from Aries is the need for new seeds that have been planted, to now take root. Taurus, being what we call a fixed earth sign, enables seeds to become entrenched in the earth, in order for them to deepen their hold on the ground and eventually bring the seed to fruition. Taurus is fond of that which is sensually appealing, hence this is the season in the northern hemisphere, when flowers bud forth and create a landscape awash with color. This is a slow but sure, conservative sign, associated with the acquisition of assets and the appreciation of that which is valuable. The strengths of the bull include patience, persistence, and determination. Taurus is not one to let go, but rather to hold on for dear life, reluctant to admit defeat or failure. Just as seeds take time to take root, so does Taurus take time to see their goals come to fruition. They are not easily deterred, remaining rooted in their beliefs and endeavors. Security is extremely important, and as a result this sign is loathe to make spur of the moment changes. It prefers to hold on to the predictability of the familiar.
And it usually takes something akin to an earthquake to catapult them out of their given patterns. This is therefore a very dependable sign, being loyal and compassionate. The deficits of this sign are found in the tendency to be stubborn as the bull that represents them. There can be an obsessive focus on money, to the exclusion of all else. And this is a sign that can certainly overindulge in the sensual sides of life. At worst it can be lazy, taking the easy or comfortable route as opposed to the unknown.
Immediately following the sun’s entrance into Taurus, we encounter the full moon in the opposing sign of Scorpio on the 20th. Equally as tenacious as Taurus, Scorpio represents the merging of assets, the joining together of the sperm and the egg as well as procreation. Therefore it is important to look at how our personal talents or goods can effectively merge with those of others to create a new form of life. Or to put it in the language of psychology, to appreciate that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Venus joins the sun in Taurus on the 30th, bringing greater value to the seeds planted within the past weeks. We find it easy to bask in the abundance of the sensual world, and are more likely to invest in that which gradually increases in value.
On May 2, fleet-footed Mercury enters the dual sign of Gemini, the twins. Our thinking processes become more flexible and adaptable, and we are mentally agile. Intellectual and physical restlessness take hold, and we are eager to exchange ideas from the statistical to the superficial. Gossip comes easily as does objectivity.
This is also the day on which Saturn turns retrograde in the earthy sign of Virgo. Long term plans are temporarily halted or put on hold, due to technical glitches that require repair. If you were born under the sign of Virgo or have planets there, you’ll need to pace yourself, and accept delays as inevitable.
The new moon in Taurus on the fifth is ideal for starting anything that requires consistent nurturing, especially that which takes form gradually. This is particularly productive for those born under the other earth signs of Virgo and Capricorn, as well as Taurus itself.
The ninth serves up additional cosmic activity as Jupiter moves retrograde in Capricorn and Mars enters Leo. Far reaching projects associated with government or big business will require reevaluation, with an eye on appropriate limits to growth and expansion. Take a sober look at the possibility that we’ve bitten off more than we can chew. More is not necessarily better.
Mars in Leo motivates us to add a colorful flair to our endeavors. There’s no harm in embellishing for dramatic effect. These days the squeaky wheel definitely garners greater attention. Those of you born under this sign will experience a shot of adrenalin in the weeks to come.
Three other dates to note are April 23, May 10 and May 18 because the Moon will be Void of Course on these days. Technically this means that the moon forms no aspects to any other planets, making this a time when things may not come to pass. It will be moving through Sagittarius, Leo and Scorpio respectfully, so you will want to exercise restraint, especially if you were born under the sign in question.
