File replication and copying are one area of IT that has really seemed to struggle. If you ask anyone in IT about copying, backing up or even just managing large numbers of files they will tell you that it can be a nightmare. You have problems of speed, file names and paths that are too long and also with auditing and actually keeping a check on files in terms of their integrity.
Despite all of the issues that come with managing large file systems no one seems to have a really good solution in place. Even Microsoft themselves don’t really have any comprehensive or up to date tools for managing and copying large numbers of files efficiently. Sure there are third party software providers out there that take up the slack where Microsoft left off, but even those providers are often using out-dated technologies whilst also charging extortionate rates for their software.
With all of this in mind, it was really refreshing recently when I came across a data management software developer whilst I was browsing social media. This developer is a relatively new start-up company and the reason they caught my attention was due to the software that they have produced. They offer file copying software for data migration, data synchronization and replication among other features, and when I say other features I mean lots of other features – the software that this company has produced really is amazing. While their products delivered exactly as advertised, the main thing that caught my attention was their mission statement. GuruSquad's mission statement is to provide enterprise class solutions to businesses of all sizes by making their products affordable.
This is really refreshing, especially in the IT industry. Normally it goes something like this – when a company comes up with a really useful and innovative software product, especially one that is focused at the enterprise, then they look at all of the competition, look at their pricing and then increase the price of their software accordingly. The basis for this strategy is that if you come up with something that no one else is providing then you can charge whatever you want for it.
This is really true within enterprise IT environments because often the budgets are very large and thus the software developers can get away with it.
When you have this in mind, to see the developers of GS Rich Copy (GuruSquad) providing their software at affordable rates is really refreshing and for them to have this in their mission statement as well tells me that they are committed to this ethos and to shattering the perceptions that many people have of developers within the IT industry.
Taking GS Rich Copy 360 Enterprise for a test run
We downloaded their "flagship" product GS RichCopy 360 Enterprise and decided to put it to test. It comes as no surprise, the speed and performance we saw, let alone the feature set were just superior to any of the "normal copy programs".
Here are some of the key features we saw
1) Ability to copy open files – this is really useful especially when you are backing up Outlook PSTs and other files that are often constantly open and locked by other programs.
2) Copy NTFS permissions – This is great in any enterprise environment and saves you having to recreate permissions on data after you have copied it.
3) Multi-threading – making copy tasks much faster than they would be using native copy tools.
4) Run as a service – so that file copy jobs will always run, even when the user is not logged in.
5) Email notification when the job is complete – so you no longer have to sit there staring at the screen and waiting for a copy job to complete.
6) Ability to copy files real-time
7) Optimized to copy files across WAN connections
The features alone in this software are really impressive but the best part is the price. When we listed these features against other backup software’s in the market the only software’s that came near to GS Richcopy were the top level providers who tend to have a pricing bracket of almost double what GS Richcopy is advertised at.
This really does collaborate with their mission statement and it is very clear they are really trying to dominate the small and medium sized business marketplace when it comes to backup software.
They have made it their mission to offer some of the best features available on the market today whilst also smashing the price when compared to their closest competitors.
This means that for the end user you are getting the best software that is available, from a trusted commercial provider but you are also paying a very reasonable cost for the privilege rather than being broke by the cost of some other file copy software providers out there.
In addition to all of the features and the great price, the software is really easy to use as well. It makes copying files a real breeze and it takes away all of the problems that are normally associated with file copying – especially when using the built in file copy tools that come with Windows.
If any of this sounds of interest, if you have any file copy jobs or system upgrades coming up then I would urge you to download a trial copy of this software and see for yourself how well built it is, how useful it is and how rich in features it is when compared to any other file copy or synchronisation program that you have every used before.
When you do try the software it would also be great if you could come back to our site and post your comments. We would love to hear about your experience with the software, how you have used it to your advantage and also how it compares to other file copy programs that you may have used in the past. We are pretty sure that there will be no one that doesn’t have a positive thing to say about this software.
