Agatha Christie is one of the most read authors all over the world, of all time. It is no surprise that she has sold hundreds of millions of copies of her books over the years and it is still going strong. One of her book’s, “And Then There Were None” which is known as the ‘world’s best-selling mystery’ has sold over 100 million copies. The book was initially published in 1939. Over the years, the book has been known as the world’s best mystery novel ever. Now that’s some achievement!

The novel starts with ten individuals being invited to a secluded house on Soldier Island, Devon. None of them know each other and so it happens that none of them know their mysterious benefactor as well. Over the course of dinner, a recorded message plays in which all of the ten individuals are accused of a crime. Little by little, terror and distrust creeps in among the ten people as murders start taking place. They realize that the killer must be one among them but there is no giveaway sign for anyone. The idea is a simple one which Agatha Christie tackles amazingly well. The charm of the plot lies in the manner in which the author writes the situations and builds up the suspense.

Over the years, Agatha Christie wrote many other books and all of them belonged to te mystery and crime genre but none were as famous and loved by readers as this. The basic plot and the story0telling genius of the author have managed to catapult this into literature folk-lore.

A short history of the writer would indulge the facts that she was born in 1890 and died in 1976. She was a Briton by birth and born in Devon. Five years before her death, she was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. She wrote a total of 66 detective novels and 15 short stories under her own name and 6 romances under the name of Mary Westmacott. But it is undoubtedly her collection of mystery and detective books that she will be remembered for.
