It is always exciting to buy a vehicle like caravans, but at the same it is vital to be attentive. It is easier to find used such vehicle online. Everything goes just perfect as per your plan. You get a nice, well equipped caravan at cheaper price on web. But, wait! Are you sure you are not being cheated? Perhaps not, you might not be aware of the tricks and games of cheaters, who play to trap you by weaving a web with unexpected cheaper price and attractive van designs. Most of the people get trapped into it and end up a lot more money than its actual worth. Selling of stolen caravans is at top these days even at renowned website. But, you need not to worry as there are ways to differentiate between the stolen and clean van deals. Here are the tips to avoid stolen used caravans:

Every caravan manufactured 1992 onwards is registered with Caravan Registration Identification Scheme (CRiS). These vans carry a unique 17 digit identification number (mostly starts with SG ........). You can find this number stamped on the caravan chassis. It is imprinted onto its windows in the bottom right hand corner. Check for VIN number as well. This is very much like having a number plate on a car and it is important as the same.

If you are being sold stolen used caravans, you may find this number removed from the windows without leaving any trace of them as if it was never been there before. There is also a possibility that the seller will tamper with the number, a number 6 will have been turned into an 8. Plus, you can hardly find the chassis stamp. This might have been altered or removed completely by drilling out.

Make sure that you carry out an HPI checking before buying used caravans. For checking, there are CRiS center where you can call and get your vehicle HPI number verified. This process might cost you a few bucks but will let you save thousands in the long run. This verification will also put a light on any previous history and will ensure that if the van is subject to a total loss of insurance claim in the past because of the damage or theft.

Also ask your dealers to provide the original Registration Document or the car log book. This gives an extra precaution, when you will ask your seller for a written receipt to validate that ownership of the used van has transferred to you. The receipt must have buyer’s full name and address, the seller’s full name and address, 17 digit ID numbers of the caravan, the model number, the date, the price paid and have the signature of both the parties.
