To become a good graphic designer, you need to work very very hard. Graphic design is a creative field and you have to work under the criterion set by your clients. You have to use a variety of materials to always stay updated about the latest ups and downs in your field of work.

You have to be familiar with high-end computer software that are meant for creating beautiful graphic designs but it's not that your entire graphic designing is taken care of by the software. You have to conceptualize it yourself and devote a lot of time to do so.

Every designer working in a graphic design company does not just get ideas instantly when a project begins. They take hours and days to brainstorm the design. After they have come up with a design idea, they try to create it using computer software and if it does not seem good, they simply discard it and re-create the design from scratch.

However, it is always a delight to watch your design after completion and watch others admire it on a billboard or a magazine. The pride that you feel when you successfully complete a design, cannot be compared to any other feeling.

You have to love your graphic designing job. You have to devote yourself to it out of passion and not just for your love of money because there is not really a hell lot of money involved in a graphic design career.

Deadlines are something you always have to keep in mind. The clients in this industry set turnaround time for their design project and the designers have to complete the project and deliver it within the set time, in other words, the deadline.

You have to conceptualize an appealing graphic design, create it, modify it if necessary and submit it to your client - all within the time set by your client. This kind of work demands much from the designer. You must always remember that your client satisfaction is the key to your success.

Sometimes, you have to face criticism. Not all of your clients will be satisfied with the work you do for them. There are good clients and terrible clients. The latter will find errors and flaws in your work, even when there aren't any. You have to be ready to nullify these unfair claims of theirs with your logic and communication skills. A logical mind as well as good people skills are essential to deal with all kinds of clients.

If you encounter a problem or a flaw in your own design, you will have to find a solution for it yourself. Good analytical skills are required for this. You have to develop good analytical skills to come up with a solution to the problem you are facing.

Listening skills are also needed. Just like you have to be good at convincing your clients about the quality of your design, you also have to be a good listener to internalize the problem they are having with your graphic design.

Finally, keep in mind that you have to be able to think out of the box because you never know what kind of design you have to accomplish.
