Estrogen Dominance is a term many women have not heard about. Yet, they should not only have heard about, they should understand it thoroughly. Why? This is how seriously Dr. John Lee, author of the book, ‘What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer, How Hormone Balance Can Help Save Your Life’ feels: “Almost all risk factors associated with breast cancer are directly or indirectly related to excess estrogen, or estrogen that isn’t balanced with progesterone. We believe correcting this imbalance, which has been termed Estrogen Dominance, is the essence of preventing and treating breast cancer.”

Brenda Eastwood, RNCP and woman’s health specialist is a wealth of information on hormonal issues. Over the next few days I am going to post sections of her amazing newsletter on WHY IS ESTROGEN DOMINANCE SIGNIFICANT?

“Dr. Lee’s statement above is bold but true. As a women’s health specialist for 29 years, I have seen the damage of Estrogen Dominance firsthand – and have helped thousands of women overcome their health issues by rebalancing their hormones. Here are just some of the symptoms of Estrogen Dominance (in case you were wondering why you’d care about this subject besides preventing breast cancer!):

• Mood swings
• Weight gain / excess body fat
• Fatigue
Depression
• Headaches and migraines
• Breast tenderness
• Fibrocystic breasts
• Water retention
• Foggy thinking
• Irritability
Anxiety
• Heavy bleeding
• Uterine fibroids
• Cold body temperature
• BREAST CANCER

Would you agree that these are some very significant reasons for wanting to eliminate Estrogen Dominance?

WHAT EXACTLY IS ESTROGEN DOMINANCE?

If you were in perfect hormonal balance, here is what your hormones would do (and even if you are menopausal or post-menopause this is still relevant, please read on).
Your progesterone and estrogen levels would be relatively low during menstruation. At the end of your period, the estrogen levels would rise, but the progesterone level would remain relatively low. At ovulation (approximately halfway through your cycle), progesterone would be produced from your ovaries.

From ovulation to the next period, you would maintain the delicate balance of progesterone and estrogen.

But most women are not in perfect hormonal balance. And what actually happens is that in the second half of the cycle, you either don’t produce enough progesterone or you have elevated levels of estrogen in relationship to progesterone – and this creates a problem coined by Dr. John Lee as “Estrogen Dominance”.

There is a great short video clip of me explaining this on my website – go to www.BrendaEastwood.com, and watch Secret #1.

Even if you are post-menopausal and are not ovulating any more, you can still suffer with Estrogen Dominance and I recommend you watch this video clip.

Next post I will share Brenda’s information about one of the major causes of estrogen dominance. 99% of women struggle with this issue. You will be amazed.
