In a primary school students are guided by teachers to read. The practice of reading has several benefits. Not only does reading helps in speech improvement and pronunciations but also in developing cognitive abilities. A primary teacher learns the methods of training students in the school through a primary teacher training course. The teacher also helps in tracking the thinking of her students while reading so that they can quickly understand what is being said in the text.

As a primary teacher, you often direct your students to read texts which are called close reading and rereading texts for enhancing the cognition. As a teacher, you can guide your students to re-read different types of texts so as to provide them help them keeping track of their thinking while they are reading them out.

It is recommended that while reading, students should annotate the text to help leave tracks of their thinking and this is an organized way to not only revisit what was on their mind but also to compile the entire idea after the reading is complete. In the classroom, you will teach your students to annotate the texts by learning from a primary teacher training course in a neat and clean manner but making sure the marks that they leave are purposeful and meaningful after the reading of the text is complete.

Students should annotate their text mainly two times. They are:

1. A purposeful annotation for every reading. Nobody wants margins full of random thoughts. The annotations should be responses to their reading based on their purpose. This is basically called a text-dependent question (TDQ).

2. When you are directing your students for a cold read, help your students to annotate bookmarks so that they can quickly recall what was going through their mind while they were reading.

When you are taking up a primary teacher training course,
you will learn how to teach kids the methods of reading comprehensively.

As a teacher, you can direct students to close read and annotate one paragraph at a time. You will be able to guide your students to read other paragraphs in the passage as well to help them develop cognitive abilities.

The best way to teach students how to think and annotate is to develop a model that is effective for them. For a couple of weeks, you must take up a shared interactive writing activity apart from reading which will help the students to organize their thinking.

As a teacher, you need to identify the fact that many young students struggle with reading in general and you have to find out the reasons to do so. Many of these can be cured with the help of proper medicinal help. Sometimes these disabilities can be genetic. In that case, both the student and her parents will need to make an appointment with a medical professional.

Finally, we will say that children’s thinking procedures while reading can be organized by the teachers who have taken training by completing the primary teacher training course. The teachers will assist the children with the skill and expertise that they have gathered from the course.
