Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha are based on cycles of the moon. The fifteen day cycle when the moon is waxing is known as Shukla Paksha while the fifteen day phase when the moon is waning is known as Krishna Paksha. Each Paksha comprises of fifteen tithis (or dates), wherein Shukla Paksha culminates with Purnima or the full moon while Krishna Paksha culminates with Amavasya, which is the new moon night when the moon is not visible. As per the Vedic Astrology, phases of the moon, in conjunction with the tithi when a person is born are believed to be of a great significance.

A very interesting fact about people born under Shukla and Krishna Paksha is that characteristics of people born on the same tithi of either waxing or waning cycle of the moon are believed to be the same. The exception to this rule is when an individual is born on Poornima or Amavasya.

Our lives are very similar to a food recipe which requires many ingredients for a perfect outcome. Correspondingly, we cannot analyze our fate or events that occur in our life solely on basis of being born in Shukla Paksha or Krishna Paksha. Some of the other factors that influence our destinies are whether we were born during day or night, or if we were born on a specific tithi such as Pratipada, which is the first day of the lunar month or Dwitiya, the second day of the lunar month.

Nevertheless, people born in Shukla Paksha have with certain characteristic traits- they have a charming disposition and are known to be possessed with a pleasing personality. If an individual is born in Shukla Paksha, he would intrinsically have an utmost desire to learn, with a passion for new technologies. Understanding about matters regarding education and commercial ventures comes naturally to the ones who are born under Shukla Paksha. These individuals are hardworking and responsible.

Let us now study in detail about how being born in Shukla Paksha or the Krishna Paksha influences your life and destiny. We can then move on into further detail about how one's Janam Titih or one's date of birth as per one's moon sign influences one's destiny.

If we take the western astrology into consideration, we come to realize that one's personality and success in life are judged alike depending upon Sun's position in the horoscope.

Sun stays in a single sign for 30 days. And the readings are generic for all descendents who are born during that time phase.

However, when we take Indian Astrology into consideration, we see that prime significance is given to the moon. Moon stays in a single sign (30o) for just a matter of two and a quarter day. It takes around 28 days for the moon to complete one entire round of the Zodiac.

We can thus easily conclude that when we access an individual based upon his moon sign, the readings are not just more realistic, but more dependable as well.

Let us understand the concepts of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha in more detail.

SHUKLA PAKSHA AND KRISHNA PAKSHA

Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha may be seen as phases of the lunar month. While Shukla Paksha is the bright half, the Krishna Paksha is the dark half.

Each of the Pakshas comprises of 15 tithis.

WHAT IS A TITHI?

A tithi may be seen as a single date in a lunar month.

So a tithi is the duration during which the moon travels 12o away from the sun.

Let's consider an example.

On the tithi of Amavasya, or the no moon night, the Sun and Moon are at the same longitude with respect to earth.

When the Moon moves ahead by 12o in the next 24 hours, it is the 1st tithi, or the Shukla Pratipada.

Similarly, when the moon reaches 24o, it is the end of the Shukla Dwitiya or the second tithi.

So a tithi may even be seen as an index of change in the position of Moon, with respect to the Sun.

ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE OF TITHIS AND PAKSHA

Astrology is a deep rooted science and an art form that dates back to 5000 years.

Rish munis and astrologers of ancient times from India were great visionaries. Their divya drishti or divine vision which facilitates foresight ensured that they see not just the moon's position in a sign, but also understand and recognize specific characteristic traits of people born on each tithi.

This led them to derive the conclusion that life pattern of an individual is based upon phases of the moon.

Another very important conclusion which they could derive was that people who are born on the same tithi in either Krishna Paksha or the Shukla Paksha have common characteristics.

The exception to the rule is when an individual is born either on Poornima or on Amavasya.

Now if an individual is born during the Shukla Paksha, we can expect him to have certain very characteristic traits.

Someone who is born in the Shukla Paksha is possessed with the capability to develop his potential to the fullest. Such a person would have it in him to meet the challenges which cross his path and get ahead in life through his own efforts.

Mansagri was an ancient Indian Astrologer of great fame, and according to him a person born in Shukla Paksha is elegant like the full moon. He is wealthy, industrious and well read in Shastras. Such a person would be efficient and learned.

But on the contrary, a person born in Krishna Paksha is defined as cruel, harsh in speech, woman hater, not intelligent, someone who needs others help for making a livelihood and someone who has a big family.

It is considered in Vedic Astrology, that when we take Shukla Paksha into consideration, the tithi has a deep influence upon how the individual is able to progress in life.

AN INDIVIDUAL BORN IN THE KRISHNA PAKSHA:

But for someone born under the Krishna Paksha, it has often been observed that such a person might face a difficulty in adjusting himself or herself to the living environment and its needs and requirements.

Now this too is very much subject to other factors in the environment, but it just might be possible that such an individual might find it difficult to succeed in life.

It has even been observed at times that an individual born in Krishna Paksha, though hailing from a wealthy family ends up in poverty. They may at times lose their authority or power. But if there are some really strong yogas in their Janam Kundali or birth chart, it is very much possible that such a person achieves heights of success in life.

This really goes to imply that being born in Krishna Paksha or the Shukla Paksha is by no means a comprehensive analysis of an individual's destiny. And for a comprehensive analysis about a person's life, career and destiny, a detailed analysis of the birth chart is very essential.

Let us now understand about how being born in the Shukla Paksha influences one's life and destiny.

AN INDIVIDUAL BORN IN THE SHUKLA PAKSHA

When a person is born at the Shukla Paksha, and if he is from a poor family, then it is through his own efforts that he raises to a destination of name, fame and prominence.

The progress would span throughout his life.

At the time of his death, such an individual would be at a higher position as compared to any prior time in his life.

A PERSON BORN MIDWAY BETWEEN SHUKLA PRATIPADA AND POORNIMA

In particular, if a person is born at a tithi which lies somewhere close to the midway between Shukla Pratipada and Poornima, he would peak around the middle age, which would be followed a period of decline.

The decline might last till the time of the close of his life.

AN INDIVIDUAL BORN AT POORNIMA OR A FEW DAYS PRIOR TO IT

It is likely that such a person hails from a family which is well to do and distinguished. It might even be possible that such a person starts his life in a way which is promising, and abundant in opportunities. But he might experience a decline in his life, and may even over time disappear into a life which is immaterial.

THIS IS CONVERSE WITH AN INDIVIDUAL BORN IN THE KRISHNA PAKSHA, IMMEDIATELY AFTER POORNIMA (FULL MOON)

If a person is born in the Krishna Paksha and immediately post poornima, he would have to put up with a gradual decline in his life, and the same would last over an elongated phase in his life.

BORN HALF WAY BETWEEN POORNIMA AND AMAVASYA

For someone who is born halfway between poornima (full moon) and amavasya (no moon), the decay halts somewhere in the halfway in his life. And from that point of time, the person would experience a steady rise in his life.

AN INDIVIDUAL BORN JUST BEFORE AMAVASYA (NO MOON)

Someone born just before Amavasya is likely to have an easy going disposition in his earlier years. But when he closes in to his youth, life would suddenly take a turn for better.

DEEDS OF ONE'S PREVIOUS LIVES DICTATATES WHETHER ONE IS BORN IN THE SHUKLA PAKSHA OR THE KRISHNA PAKSHA

One may at times wonder about what is it that defines whether an individual is born in the Shukla Paksha or the Krishna Paksha.

As per Vedic Astrology, it is the Prarabdha, or the deeds of one's previous life which act the defining factor in deciding whether one is born in the Krishna Paksha or the Shukla Paksha. And the working of the same is pretty obviously beyond an individual's control. It's merely defined by the position of moon at the time of one's birth!

However as mentioned earlier, an individual's destiny is defined not merely by the Paksha in which he takes birth, but some other factors, which include.

-Dasas

-Positioning of planets in one's Janma Kundali or Birth Chaart

-Karmas in his life

Also influence his destiny to a great extent.

It is recognized by those knowledgeable about Vedic Astrology, however, that when an individual is born in the Krishna Paksha, benefic dasas come later in life.
