We all know that sugar isn’t good for us, but it can be hard to resist in a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine. However, sugar is in a lot more places than you may believe. Just look through the list below and pick out the foods you believe have no sugar:

• Mayonnaise
• All Bran cereal
• Shreddies cereal
• Frozen Pizza
• Beef Jerky
• Croutons
• Gatorade
• Pretzels
• Children’s Nyquil
• Advil Tablets
• Metamucil Fiber
• Baked beans
• Canned peas
• Zesty Italian salad dressing
• Worcestershire Sauce

How many foods did you say were sugar-free? One, two, four or five?

Would you believe that every single food mentioned here has sugar or high fructose corn syrup in it? That’s right! Not one food here is sugar-free! That means that most foods you eat that come from a package, bottle or freezer, more likely than not, have sugar in them.

Knowing that just 1 teaspoon of sugar shuts down approximately 75% of your immune system for up to 6 hours, how do you avoid sugar?

By eating real food. Real food means fresh vegetables, fruit, lentils, beans, proteins and whole grains such as brown rice. If that feels foreign to you, then it may take some adjustment as you start to incorporate real food into your diet again.

For example, rather than have breakfast cereal which is full of sugar – (if Shreddies and All Bran have sugar, then so does most everything else) – have eggs. Instead of a packaged soup at lunch try my soup recipe and for 20 minutes work and pennies on the dollar, you will have homemade soup for several days. Try nuts, unsweetened yogurt with cinnamon, and fruit if you need snacks. Since getting my blood sugar level back in balance, I no longer need to eat constantly which is a blessing. Eliminating sugar from your diet may be one of the greatest challenges you’ve ever faced. However, sugar shuts down your immune system for hours. Your immune system is what fights cancer. You take out the army day in and day out; it’s easy to understand why you lose the war.
