According to current research in Australia, high carbohydrate foods may flare up acne in some people. Chronic consumption of high carbs stimulates the excessive production of insulin so that eventually more insulin is needed to aid glucose into cells; this is known as "insulin resistance".

The higher insulin may drive the ovaries to produce more testosterone which in turn break out acne. This may be what is happening partly in a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome. Here we present some of them:

1. Chocolate and Pizza can cause acne:

There are several myths about the causes of acne and how to treat it. Have you been told that Pie and Pizza cause pimples or you should avoid eating chocolate because it causes acne?

Incorrect! That's just a myth, and while some foods can make acne worse for some people, researchers have found that it is nothing but fallacy.

Too much of everything is bad, including food, you must always eat a healthy, well-balanced diet is the best choice, and foods like chocolate, French fries and pizza can break out acne. This is nothing but fallacy, they should be eaten in moderation.

When you suspect a food to be the cause of your zits, take a break of 2 - 4 weeks by avoiding that food, If your acne improves over that time period, then try eating the suspected food again to ascertain whether you get another flare of your acne. If your answer is yes, then it's possible that you were right!

According to medical research studies, no clear connection has been made between foods and acne. Though, some foods can make acne worse for some people. But in most cases is only erroneous belief

2. Acne is caused by dirty skin:

Cleansing and scrubbing your skin excessively will not help your acne and if you have pimples, it does not mean that your skin is dirty. In fact, scrubbing your body too harsh may make it worse. The best thing to do is to gently wash your face twice a day especially if you use make up, with a mild soap and then pat dry.

However, you should avoid over washing and also know that the causes of acne affect oil glands, which are well below the surface of the skin. This can dry out and irritate your skin, increasing inflammation and aggravating of your acne. Acne treatment

3. Cosmetics make acne worsen:

Makeup alone doesn't necessarily cause acne; Although, it is true that many creams can worsen your acne, Regardless of what type of cosmetic you wear, always wash it off when your day is finished.

There are many cosmetic products, oils and greases, you can use that do not cause acne, including foundations, moisturizers and sunscreens respectively. They neither aggravate acne nor lead to development of pimples, get brands labeled "oil-free", "non-acnegenic" or "non-comedogenic" products.

4. Sunlight will improve pimples:

Despite the fact that it is correct that sun exposure will dry out your existing acne, it can never prevent new ones from forming. Many people believe that being in the sun can improve their pimples; whereas, the sun can actually make their acne worse.

Some of the common acne drugs, like retinoid and tetracycline can make your skin sensitive to the sun leading to serious sunburns. When you're in the sun, it is always wise to use a sunscreen to protect your skin with an SPF of 15 or higher.

5. Squeezing or Picking acne is the best way to get rid of it quickly:

One of the simple ways to tackle pimples is to stop touching it. Squeezing or picking can damage the cells under your skin and this can leads to outbreak and spreading of pimples.

Squeezing your pimples will also cause the zits to be inflamed or leave a permanent scar. As tempting as it is, you will be better off in the long run to keep your hands off your pimples and let them heal on their own. Acne therapy

6. There is no medication for acne. It will go away on its own:

This is absolutely not true! Though your acne may eventually go away on its own. In most cases if untreated it can leave permanent scars on the skin or face that could have been prevented if you proper medication is taken. There are many treatment options for acne even over-the-counter treatments are also available for acne.

Benzoyl peroxide kills the P. acnes bacteria that cause inflammation in a blocked pore, it may take about 21 days for results to occur. Also Antibiotics e.g. Tetracycline is commonly prescribed for acne and it works by taking away the bacteria. Isotretinoin or Accutane is a stronger oral medication available for treating acne, that must be prescribe by the physicians.

Talk to your doctor about which ones are right for you.

7. Acne is caused by sexual activity:

When you are approaching puberty you are prone to acne. In puberty, your body experiences hormonal changes that lead to the maturation and development of your sexual features. Acne is coupled with these changes, not with sexual activity. These hormonal changes in some people may also cause you to get acne.
