Webster’s Dictionary defines depression as depressing or being depressed; a hollow or low place; low spirits; dejection. We all have our own personal perception and definition. Most of us are afraid to publicly admit any level of depression because of society’s general view that people suffering from depression are mentally unstable, unpredictable, unreliable, and mentally ill.

All of us experience some level of depression at times in our lives, the passing of a loved one, job loss, divorce to name a few. Many others live their lives in quiet desperation, fearful of disclosing their chronic depressed feelings assuming others will judge them negatively.

I must caution that those with serious levels of depression must consult with their primary physician and/or an M.D. in Psychology. Diagnosis and medication may be required before a client is ready to rationally pursue Thinkiatry’s Self-Therapy Principles and Process.

Thinkiatry represents a new field of self-therapy Principles and Process to work in conjunction with, or as an alternative to traditional Psycho-Therapy and medications.

Thinkiatry focuses on the absolute fact that depression cannot exist without negative thoughts. Therefore, our level of negative thinking determines our level of depression. Thinkiatry teaches us how to minimize negative thoughts which have absolutely no value in our daily lives except to let us know we are off track and headed toward emotional distress.

If negative thoughts are managed and controlled our lives change quickly, depression and many other negative thought induced distressful emotions can no longer exist as Thinkiatry’s Principles alter our typically habitual negative thinking.

Most would agree that negative thinking about ourselves and others has reached epidemic levels in societies throughout the world today, and traditional therapies and medications are not going to reverse this trend. A large percentage of prescribed medications are not even taken because of side effects and users thinking they don’t need to depend upon medications they don’t understand or see value in.

Thinkiatry’s Self-Therapy Principles and Process focus on the root of depression by eliminating the chronic negative thinking – the true source of all emotional distress. The Principles teach us that only we choose to make our negative thoughts real and our feelings act as the navigational tool to instantly alert us that negative thoughts are active before they become a low mood, thought attack, or depression.

We can learn to understand, monitor, and control the emotional landscape of our lives. Imagine how your emotional life can change using Thinkiatry’s Self-Therapy knowledge and skills many times each day to minimize the negative thought created emotions in your life.
