‘Reiki’ is a Japanese word and means ‘universal life-force energy’. In the last part of the 19th century a Japanese priest, Dr Mikao Usui, rediscovered a way of channeling this healing energy, creating the Usui System of Natural Healing, which is now better known as ‘Reiki’.

Reiki is a totally safe, non-intrusive hands-on-healing technique for physical ailments, but it is much more than a physical therapy. It is a holistic system for healing body, mind, spirit and emotions. It can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual growth.

The potential for multi-level healing with Reiki is unlimited.

How Reiki Healing Works?

Our whole energy field, including our physical body, is responsive to thoughts and feelings. This flow of energy becomes disrupted or blocked whenever we accept or acknowledge negative feelings about ourselves, whether done consciously or unconsciously.

Reiki helps break through these blockages. Because Reiki is guided by a Higher Intelligence, it always finds its way to those areas of the physical body and the energy body most in need of healing, without any conscious direction from either the healer or the person being healed. It adjusts to suit the recipient, so that each person receives as much or as little healing as they need.

It is, however, important not to have fixed expectations about the outcome of receiving Reiki. Because Reiki works holistically, it will flow through you to unblock the causative level of ‘disease’. While your conscious mind might think help with a physical symptom is the priority, your sub-conscious or higher self, will identify the underlying physical causes, whether emotional, mental or spiritual, so healing may need to take on those levels first.

No conscious effort on your part is necessary. If you are willing to receive the reiki, healing will take place.

If you want the healing to be permanent you have to take responsibility for healing the cause. This may mean changing the way you think or the way you relate to others or even altering your lifestyle. Reiki can help with these adjustments too, allowing you to approach the changes in a calm relaxed state of mind.

Reiki is not a religion, but a healing connection to the universal life-force. You need no particular beliefs in order to learn or use Reiki, and no complicated rituals are required.

The ability to channel Reiki can only be acquired when it is transferred to the student by a Reiki Master. This is done in a sacred ceremony of attunement or initiation. As soon as you have been attuned you have, and can use, Reiki.
You don´t need any specific knowledge or experience. You just need a willingness to let this healing energy flow through you.

The attunement process creates a Reiki channel, through which Reiki can flow. Then, whenever you intend to use Reiki, simply thinking about it or holding your hands out in readiness to use it will activate it.

It is not the healer´s own energy, but comes from directly from the Higher Intelligence, flowing through a pure channel, so that it cannot be affected or tainted by the way the practitioner feels.

The energy can only flow in one direction so it also means that the practitioner cannot pick up any negative energy from the client through the Reiki channel.
