I was recently at a conference and one of the speakers was talking about the uncomfortable feeling of developing and growing our home based franchise and ourselves to becoming a top producer is kind of like a rubber band.

This association resonated deeply with me since I used this exact example on a daily basis when I was in medical sales. In fact, I carried the BJ’s sized bag of rubber bands around with me on sales calls to illustrate my point.

The rubber band concept goes like this. Sit back and visualize having a rubber band and you are stretching it and stretching it. The first stretch is uncomfortable, tense and difficult. If the rubber band doesn’t immediately snap, you don’t hold it for very long, and the rubber band goes back to almost its original size.

The next day you stretch that same rubber band out again. The rubber band is not as tense and uncomfortable and you are able to stretch the rubber band with a bit more ease. Because it’s not so hard to stretch the rubber band, you are able to hold it at the stretch for a little longer period of time. You do this stretch for a period of weeks and months and all of a sudden, that rubber band has stretched to twice the length that it used to be.

Now, let’s take this stretching concept to the stretching and growing that we need to do in our home based franchise. It is no different of a concept no matter what stage you are in with your business. In the beginning of your home based franchise or at the beginning of a new project in your already established business you are like the brand new rubber band. Everything you enter into is new and is typically very uncomfortable. So uncomfortable that typically you can only stretch for short periods of a time.

But, as you get more comfortable with your abilities to market and to sell you expand your efforts, you become more of the expert and the leader that people are looking for. You are growing and stretching each day, just as that rubber band did. By the time you know it your home based franchise is thriving, you have developed into being a top producer in your industry and you are finally able to realize your goals and live the lifestyle that you have set your mind to have.

Is it easy? No. If you have ever done any type of stretching in anything in your life, it can be quite painful, but if you stretch just a bit one day at a time…with complete persistence, you will be surprised at how quickly you are able to stretch into the huge success that you are looking to be in your home based franchise and in your life.

Do some real stretching today and I will see you at the top.
