Today’s rant, I mean lesson, is about learning. More importantly the continued education that is necessary to make yourself successful and reach the happiness I know you are seeking. By the way, I know you’re seeking happiness. Not only because you signed up for my newsletter, but because the Dalai Lama told me. Well he didn’t tell me specifically, but in his quote:

“I believe that the very purpose of our life is to seek happiness. That is clear. Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, we all are seeking something better in life. So, I think, the very motion of our life is towards happiness…” the Dalai Lama

Ok, back to the subject! Education is a subject that is very important to me. You see I don’t have a college education; however I would estimate I’ve already read more books this year alone than most people with a degree. I think it’s crucial to your business, career, relationships, health, and almost every aspect of your life to continue learning. Pick almost any subject you like, and go make a list of books and references on the subject. It is astonishing how many new books are written every year! Why is that? Because the amount of knowledge on nearly every subject is constantly changing. New things are discovered all the time, whether it’s cutting edge science, ideas that help people get along better, ways to make our lives better or more efficient. By the time your children are your age, we may not have gas-powered cars any longer! Wouldn’t that be great…

My point is that we are in an age where things are changing so rapidly, if you don’t at least try to keep up you will be hopelessly left behind. For me, learning is fun. Yes, I mean that! Not just learning to make more money, or learning to get more eyeballs on my website, or other things that I know will benefit me. I enjoy learning about many things: history, because it teaches you how to be aware of the past (and not to repeat it, sometimes!). Psychology because I learn how to create better relationships with people every day which broadens my knowledge base even more. The human body since I intend on living a very long life and in order to do this I need to keep up with the latest medical breakthroughs. And learning about financial investments can help you stay away from debt and even help you to retire earlier, if you really learn and apply that knowledge.

Need I go on? Expanding your knowledge is expanding your universe! It helps in your creativity, helps you to be empathetic with others and their problems, and even helps you to solve problems! And another fact to remember, your brain is much like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it gets! Yes to be successful and happy requires that we continue to learn throughout our lives. Don’t ever stop learning, go to seminars, take continuing education courses at your local college, and read as many books as you can get your hands on. I promise you won’t regret the effort.

“Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one”. – Malcolm Forbes
