Everybody wants to be happy, especially in a relationship. However, the reality is that the relationship can be difficult especially in dating and marrying. Here is my advice on relationship especially for you when you think you are giving my best but your partner thinks otherwise.

To maintain a healthy and lasting relationship, there are two essential requirements from us. They are commitment and decision. You need to understand that no relationship is perfect and there are many obstacles to overcome along the way. If you do not put in any effort, those obstacles will remain your obstacles.

Hard as you may believe, your relationship can never be stagnant.

The key is to make it work is to communicate with your spouse frequently. Doing so for just 30 minutes to an hour are small steps to bigger success. Like it or not, this is the core foundation of marriage regardless of race, language or personality.

Here are my tips:

1. Respect And Appreciation

The first thing you should do is to respect and appreciate your spouse as much you want to be.

If you are in the wrong, do not be defensive. It is not difficult to say I am sorry if you let go of the pride. Though it is not easy mentally, it is even harder if you maintain your pride and your partner treat you just as negatively as you did.

2. Do Not Repeat Your Mistake

Saying sorry is one thing. Not doing again is another.

If you are someone who keeps saying sorry again and again but still repeat the same mistake, your marriage can still backfire.

I know because I have done that before and it is not easy for me since my ex girlfriend refuses to accept my apology.

3. Show Your Love For Your Partner

Anyone can say I love you to their partner. It is very easy since there are many romantic movies and anyone can duplicate what the main characters said.

But doing is another. Love is all about give and take. If you cannot give, how can you expect to receive? If you have to, you may need to make certain sacrifices even if your partner thinks otherwise.

Just like the movie Titanic.

4. Spend Time With Your Loved Ones

Though most of our time is spent at work, we should not always give work as an excuse.

Since you are supposed to love each other forever as you vowed in your wedding, you should not just spend weekends together but every single day.

This is how you keep love alive and stronger than ever.

5. Surprise Your Partner With Gifts On Anniversaries Or Birthdays

But before you do so, there are 2 essential things you need to take into consideration.

Firstly make it a point to remember your wedding anniversary and your spouse’s birthday. If you cannot, either jot down in your physical or e-notebook or your mobile phone.

It may not mean much to you initially if you are a guy. But it means a lot to women.

6. Accept Your Spouse The Way He Or She Is
Let’s face it.

We are all humans. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. We can excel in some things and make mistakes in some.

As much as you want to be accepted, you should do the same to your spouse regardless of her flaws and shortcomings.

That is what love really is. Not hugging, kissing, saying or sex.

7. Share, Discuss And Work Things Out Together

Feelings like lust and desire for someone better will always be a temptation even after marriage. The same goes for money and looking after children if you have any.

But these are not what really matter. What matters most is how you and your spouse react. Instead of arguing and even fighting with each other, you should sit down to share, discuss and work things out together.

If that fails, you should confide in your family and friends. But if they still do not work out, you may consider getting a marriage counsellor.
