Relationships can develop through friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and the people we interact with every day. Relationships are built over time, as well as trust, and the commitment placed into them. Relationships are not permanent. They can end at any time for no reason at all. They hold no obligations and a low expectation rate for all involved, so there is little room for disappointment.

Many of us say, I want a loving relationship because we are taught that when two people come together in love, it’s called a relationship. However, what we saw demonstrated back in the day through our grandparents was not a relationship, it was a partnership. Relationships are all around us, but we’re looking for balance, security, and stability. I have provided some key points you should be looking for to see if a person is compatible to meet your needs in a partnership.

#1 Would you go into business with this person? A business partner is someone who is responsible with money and knows how to make money flow. You can’t have a strong partnership if finances are an issue. Money is one of the biggest reasons for divorces today. If most people asked themselves would they have gone into business with their ex’s, the answer would probably be no. You have to have a sense of financial trust and belief to know this person will do anything it takes to help build the empire.

#2 What’s love got to do with it? Love is the basis of the relationship, but it cannot and will not build or fund the empire. You need a partner to help build and inspire you to take the necessary steps into creating your legacy. Marrying for love is equivalent to marrying due to his/her potential. Potential means nothing if you’re not willing to put forth the effort to build a solid foundation.

#3 Partnerships are investments. No one wants to waste time and energy with someone who can’t contribute anything towards their dreams. If a person doesn’t ask you about your dreams and personal goals, they are not partner material. A person who is serious about you not only wants to know more about you, they also want to know where their time and money is being invested. Your partner should always be willing and able to invest in your future.

#4 A partner will inspire, motivate, and push you toward your goals. They understand when you win, they win. Only a person who is dedicated to you, will see your gifts and talents whether you see them or not. A partner will identify what needs to be done to make sure the plan is well executed.

#5 A partner is part of you and not your identity. Partnerships allows you to keep your individuality. You must be able to work together and apart. Some things are meant to be done as a team while others should be done alone. This is very important when trying to build together because it allows you to be yourself and do the things that makes you happy.

You don’t want to feel like you missed out on life because you didn’t pursue your dreams and goals. When you allow this to happen, you lose sight of yourself and the things that makes you happy. Even if you have a family business, never lose sight of what’s important to you and your life’s purpose.
