Here’s something I found really interesting in my weight-loss journey: the times when I lost the most weight was when I thought of myself as a thin person. I literally found myself jogging or walking and felt like I was this thin person with an extra layer of padding, as if I was wearing a fat sack on my stomach. That allowed me to tap into the physical feelings of being thin, instead of just forcing myself to go through the motions of exercising and eating well to no avail.
Visualization is a key component of getting the body you want. When you think about it, it makes absolute sense: How can you create the body of your dreams if you haven’t even stopped to think of what that might look like? Taking the time to visualize your desired outcome will help you give yourself something to focus on, something to use to propel yourself forward.
I like to say that you should work with what you’re for instead of fighting for what you’re against. This is in line with the Law of Attraction and the saying that “what you resist, persists”. If you are constantly fighting fat, fighting your weight, you are inevitably going to stay in that place. Your focus is on putting all this negative energy into what you don’t want. When you shift your attention to what you DO want – visualizing the body of your dreams, feeling what it would be like to be at a healthy weight, and all the aspects of your life that would change with it – you start putting your energy into manifesting exactly that.
You can easily fit visualization into your daily practice by taking some time in the morning or evening (or both!) to sit back, relax, and just picture yourself at your ideal weight. Imagine what it would look like to have the body you want. Imagine how it would feel to be fit, strong, and healthy. What would your life be like? How would it feel for you to have the figure you’ve been chasing after your entire life?
Know that this is entirely possible. Know that you can have exactly this and that it will come to you with time. You may feel tempted to start crash dieting again, but give it time. Weight lost over a period of time is more likely to stay off than weight that comes off within a matter of weeks.
Also, keep in mind that how you want to feel when you’re at your ideal weight, the things you want in your life, you can have those things NOW. You can be strong, confident, and successful – loved, accepted, cherished – exactly as you are right now. Don’t wait until you’re a specific size to start incorporating these wonderful traits into your life. You’re worth it right now.
Have you ever tried visualization? Did it work for you?
