“One’s real life is so often the life that one does not lead.” -Oscar Wilde

My perception of “one’s real life” is that of the life that was intended before conception. We are all on this earth with an innate purpose. That purpose is what was meant to guide our path. The innate empowerment we were born with is the foundation of the “real life” we were intended to live.

We are born and influenced by the beliefs, opinions and backgrounds of our parents. Then we get to school and our live is influenced by our peers and other authority figures. We are sometimes so swayed by the views of others along the way that we become forgetful of how our “real life” was meant to unfold. Our “real life” becomes elusive. That innate empowerment becomes a hidden mist of consciousness deep in our being. We forget that we are “acting out the part” that wasn’t meant for us (lyrics from James Taylor’s song, “Shower the People” is running through my mind.)

All this subconscious role-playing we have done has led us to become falsely identified, separate from our True Innate “Being-ness”. It has caused us discord and incongruence between what we say and what we do. It has caused heartache and confusion between our human side and our spirit side. This turmoil brings about emotional damage and physical ailment. The body has a definite way of reflecting all the emotional damage in our psyche.

The intention of writing about this topic is to help us realize that in order to create a better life for ourselves, we need to learn to be true to ourselves - to live out and express our true selves. A perfect (but to some, an extreme) example of this would be Chaz Bono. He said that ever since he was little, he never felt “right” about being a girl. He hated dresses and dressing up. He has taken all the steps needed to live out, express, and become the perfect example of his “true self!” If we all had the courage to take steps to become who we were truly meant to be from the beginning, the world might just be a more accepting, tolerant, and peaceful place to be!
