INTRODUCTION TO HYPNOSIS
WHAT HYPNOSIS IS NOT
YESSSS, MASSSTERRR!!!

Most people remember the black and white movies of old, depicting some poor guy being “Hypnotized by the evil swami. The victim had bulging eyes staring blankly ahead as he held his arms straight out in front of his body. He would be walking like a zombie and intoning eerily, “Yesss, Massterr, what is your bidding?” The guy seemed to be completely under a “spell” without any self will at all. He became an unwitting party to the dark dastardly deeds that his “master” desired done. Golly gee, if only it were that simple Yes, you can brain wash somebody, as we know in the case of hostages, cults, and P.O.W.’s . However it takes a lot of time, depravation of outside social life, food , and sleep, peer pressure, constant indoctrination and other strategies such as torture to get a person to relinquish their self will. I would hope that someone would begin to miss you in the time it would take to capture your self determination. It is impossible to force someone to do something that they would not normally do, something that would go against their moral code, through the power of hypnosis alone. So you can’t be made to steal from your employer, mug an old lady, or kick a puppy unless you had the propensity to do so in the first place. One of the most important things a Hypnotherapist can do is provide an atmosphere of trust and safety for the subject. In my pre-counseling session I always tell the person that they are incomplete control of their session. If they wish to stop for any reason, whether they need to go to the bathroom or they just feel uncomfortable, they can stop at any time. It’s quite easy to pick up where we left off. If it’s a matter of feeling uncomfortable we address that until we have a solution. A responsible Hypnotherapist assures their client that their safety and sense of well being is the primary foundation of any session. Remember it it doesn’t feel right to you, you have the right to call and end to the session.

WILL I QUACK LIKE A DUCK?

Another unfortunate image we have to contend with is the stage hypnotist. You’ve seen them on TV and at cabaret clubs, getting people to do ridiculous things so other people can have a laugh. These hypnotists are very adapt at going through an audience and selecting the ones who are probably highly suggestible. Then they continue to weed them out until they have the kind of people that are right for their stage antics. These are typically the same sort of people who after having had a couple of martinis at a party would end up doing the hula with a lamp shade on their head. These are the people who given the right opportunity and excuse will “act out” or behave in a manner outside their normal behavior pattern. It’s a great form of entertainment but it has no therapeutic value at all. These are the people who given the right opportunity and excuse will “act out” or behave in a manner outside their normal behavior pattern. WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

In my opinion there is no more powerful tool to healing ourselves than the use of Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is the purposeful relaxation of a person to the point that they are able to access their subconscious. The subconscious holds the keys to personal discovery, positive motivation and reinforcement, and the ability to correct any imbalances that exist in the body, mind and soul. The wonderful thing about Hypnotherapist is that we recognize that each person is truly unique. We all got where we are today on our own special path. So each time we open up the doors of the subconscious it is like the unveiling of a one of a kind master piece- you. It is your journey within yourself to find your history, your answers, and your peace of mind.
